Junior varsity
ready to move up

GREENVILLE- With certain sports venues at Greenville High School
starting to make solid names for themselves, one more group can be
added to that list.
The 12 year emergence of Lady Wave softball has led the way with three
appearances at state under head coach Jerrod Newland.
Greenville baseball, Lady Wave tennis and boys basketball has joined
that elite list as well as wrestling. Now Greenville boy’s tennis is
looking to make that list.
As of this writing, the Greenville junior varsity tennis team is
currently undefeated with an 8-0 mark and head coach Dennis Kiser is
very optimistic about the future of Wave tennis.
“I’ve got one of the best junior varsity teams that I’ve had in a long
time,” said Kiser. “We won our own tournament recently against Troy,
Celina, Northmont and Northwestern. There were eight teams here all
together and we won easily.”
With graduation approaching, Kiser will lose two seniors from his
singles players and two seniors that make up his number one doubles
team, leaving three spots that will need to be filled.
For many coaches, this would present a major dilemma.
In Kiser’s case, this isn’t the case.
“I’ve got four kids ready to step in to those positions right now,”
Kiser stated. “I’ve got two freshman and two sophomores ready to go
right now and who knows who will come in and contribute because I’ve
got some athletes on that junior varsity team. Depending on what they
do this summer and over the winter, I’ve got seven or eight that could
step into the varsity.”
Kiser named the three front-runners.
“I’ve got sophomore Quinton Mullencamp that has played quite a bit,”
said Kiser. “I’ve got two freshmen, Craig Mangas and Noah Haupt. These
kids are ready to go.”
With sectional just around the corner, Greenville will look to push
through and get players to the district level.
When the 2015 season comes, Kiser should have plenty to smile about.
