Greenville looks good in first meet of season
By George Starks

GREENVILLE- Even though the final results were not posted immediatly, Greenville track coach Bill Plessinger was pleased with what he saw Tuesday in a tri-meet with Piqua and Troy.

With all events posted, the Lady Wave track team topped Troy 78-55 with Piqua scoring 42 points on the night.

On the Boys side, the Wave put up 84 points with Piqua notching 47 and Troy 44 points.

“It’s our first meet of the season,” said Plessinger. “We put these duel and tri meets into a whole different perspective. They are more for fun and it gives kids a chance to get out here and compete. They can score some points and earn a letter. Because of what I have to do, I don’t always know what’s going on in the meet.”

A long time track and field coach, Plessinger will look over the results long after the meet is finished to determine what his kids did on opening night.

“We had a lot of kids out there tonight running for the very first time,” Plessinger pointed out. “Without looking at times and results, I thought we did well. I was pleased with the performance of our kids.”

While kids like senior Paige Keller excelled in her events (100, pole vault and a relay), it was junior Aaron Balsbaugh that had the attention of many.

Balsbaugh took control of the 4x400 relay.

Running the anchor leg for the Wave, Balsbaugh went from second place at the hand-off and blew by the competition in three of four steps, leading the Wave to the victory in the relay race.

“The hardest thing about Aaron is to figure out what event to put him in,” said Plessinger. “He can really do so much. He and Clay Guilliozet both went six feet in the high jump so Arron is really good. I don’t know if he’ll make it to state but he’ll be right there. I think he can break the school record in the 800 so I’m very blessed to have him this year and one more year. He’s really filled out and has gotten stronger.”

With the Lady Tiger Classic being cancelled last Saturday, the event will now be contested tonight in Versailles.
