Annual derby closes the curtain

GREENVILLE-Another year of the Great Darke County Fair has gone by ending with its regular closing event, the demolition derby.  This years derby was ran by Smash It! Demolition Derby Inc., and like any other year, it was a sold out crowd.  From mud being flung into the infield seats to the fair board giving kids stuffed animals, everyone was having a good time.

There was a new addition to the event this year, the power wheel derby.  A power wheel derby is a derby that's explicitly for the younger crowd.

Young children and their parents would bring out their power wheels and let the kids crash into each other so they could have something to do and make them feel like part of the event.

Along with that there were 7 other classes that ran Saturday night bringing in a total of 91 entries that included stock lawnmowers, modified lawnmowers, street car minis, Smash It! minis, mini modifieds, mild weld big cars, and full modified big cars.

Every class gave it their all and had everyone on their feet sometime throught the class' derby.

Every winner gave it their all and fought hard to earn their trophy and glory, but there was one who fought harder than anyone else, and that was Tommy Dillman of Greenville.

Tommy was in the mild weld big car class.  Despite having a few troubles at the beginning he managed to get going on a roll.  He seemed unstoppable and proved he was.  From putting cars on top of the wall to smashing front ends of cars, he was a force to be reckoned with.

As he came out onto the derby pit, his back end seemed to have taken on some damage before hand, at his own shop.

"It was a fresh car that we pre dented so it tucked nice." said Dillman.

He was having a great night with his victory along with his family as well.

"My wife got two 3rd places and I got two 1st and one of my good friends got 1st in the minis so we cleaned house all out of the same shop. My nephew won the other class (full modified big cars)," said Dillman.

Dillman was very pleased with the night, "Great night.  Couldn't ask for any better."
