Ft. Recovery
defense stops Arcanum
Johnting nets 17 for Trojans

ARCANUM- “We’ve got to get better.”
Those were the word of Arcanum coach Rachel Fearon Tuesday after her
Lady Trojans fell 44-29 to Ft. Recovery in non-conference action.
“We have to get better,” Fearon re-iterated on a night when there was
very little to talk about. “The big red X is on our backs and right
now, we’re folding in and letting people hit that big red X.”
On a night when Arcanum had its moments, it was a 1-2-2 zone that shut
the high powered Trojans offense down.
After trailing 17-9 at the end of the opening eight minutes, Arcanum’s
defense stepped up in the second frame, holding the Indians offense at
bay and closing to within a 17-14 count before falling to a 26-17
deficit at the break.
It was the third quarter that would eventually prove a disaster for
Arcanum.
The Ft. Recovery zone held the Trojans scoreless in the frame and would
hold a 36-17 lead heading into the final stanza.
“They (FR) just play good solid defense,” admitted Fearon. “With the
skill level we have to shoot the ball offensively, we should be able to
bust any zone that comes at us. We allowed a team to stay in a 1-2-2-
zone the entire game and that is what killed us. We should be able to
bust any zone that comes to us.”
Sophomore Stevie Johnting netted 17 to lead the Trojans on offense but
it all goes much deeper than that.
“Offensively, it was a good night for her,” admitted Fearon.
“Defensively, we lacked on it and we can’t have that. The points
offensively is no good if you give them up defensively.”
Now 1-2 on the season, the Trojans will start their Cross County
Conference march tonight at Covington.
