Forfeits hurt Greenville

VERSAILLES- When a team gives up seven matches to forfeits, it doesn’t
leave much room for error.
Such was the case for Greenville Tuesday. The Wave grapplers headed to
the Northeast part of the county to do battle with Versailles.
With forfeits at 106, 113, 120, 126, 160, 220 and 285, Greenville stood
little chance and in the end, it was the Tigers posting a 63-3 victory.
For Versailles coach A. J. Bey, it all boiled down to being ready.
“I thought we wrestled well tonight,” said Bey. “We had a good week of
preparation and I think our kids are in pretty good shape. Greenville
had a couple of tough kids and we wrestled them tough It was a pretty
good outcome tonight.”
On the night, Versailles lost one match. That coming in the 182 pound
weight class as Wave senior Gunner Fustos defeated senior Ian Hiestand
in a 5-1 decision.
We have a solid team,” said Bey. “We have 32 kids on our team so we
have some pretty good battles that go on in our room. It’s every week
that you’ll see a couple of new kids in the lineup. We have our wrestle
offs and we have some good kids behind these kids.”
Even though the Tigers won big over the Wave, Bey had one really nice
surprise when senior Austin Didier defeated Daniel Cline, 14-7, at the
138 mark.
“Austin has been on the junior varsity squad and wit Nathan (Henry)
banged up a little bit, Austin jumped right in there and got the job
done,” said Bey.
It was a disappointing night for Greenville coach David Guillozet.
Even though the season is still young, the Wave coach has an uphill
battle.
“We have a lot of work to do,” said Guillozet. “It’s going to be tough
when tournament time come for us.”
Now 2-0 in single duel, Versailles will host its annual invitation
Saturday while Greenville will host a reserve wrestling tournament
Saturday.
