Freshman
Sensation Galloway Earns Second Straight HL Honor
INDIANAPOLIS
(2/24/2014) -- For the second-straight week and the third time this
season, a Titan freshman was honored by the Horizon League as rookie
Megan Galloway (Greenville, Ohio / Greenville) once again was tabbed
the HL Freshman Of The Week on Monday.
The
award also marks the third-straight week Detroit has received a
weekly accolade as Galloway's back-to-back award followed freshman
Minisha Frederick-Childress winning it back on Feb. 10.
Galloway
continues to impress out on the court as she tallied her second
double-double in the last three games and the third of her rookie
campaign with 16 points and a season and game-high 17 rebounds
against Wright State. She was 7-of-17 from the field and even handed
out a season-best five assists.
The
17 boards was the most by a Titan since Yar Shayok - the second
leading rebounder in Titan history - had 17 against the College of
Charleston in the second round of the WBI last season.
Galloway
has now scored in double digits in three-straight games and four
total during Horizon League play. Galloway has also pulled down at
least five rebounds in nine of UDM's 12 conference games, including
double digits on four occasions.
In
her last three games, she is averaging a team-high 16.7 points and
11.3 rebounds per game and shooting 50% from the field (23-of-46). In
HL action, she is tallying 8.7 ppg., and 7.3 rpg., and nearly hitting
50% from the field connecting on 47-of-96 (49.0%).
Galloway
and the Titans close out the regular season home slate with two games
this week, starting on Wednesday as Valparaiso comes to town. Game
time is set for 7:00 p.m., on Dick Vitale Court in historic Calihan
Hall.
