TROY- Tri-Village jumped out to an 11-0 lead early Tuesday against
Emmanuel Christian and never looked back.
Putting four players in double figures, led by senior Tyler Cook with
19, the Patriots cruised to an 83-26 sectional victory.
“I was proud of my guys tonight,” said Patriots coach Josh Sagester.
“They came out focused and were ready to play both mentally and
physically.”
After the 19 points scored by Tyler Cook, cousin Damien Cook netted 16
and pulled down 13 of the Patriots 25 rebounds.
On many occasions, Cook’s board work led to points on the other end.
“We did a good job of getting on the boards tonight,” added Sagester.
“He did a really nice job of controlling the boards tonight. We’ve
talked about it. If we can clear the boards, then we can run and get
easy baskets. We’ve done a great job of this the last quarter of the
season. We were able to get out on the break and run our lanes
and sharing the basketball.”
The Patriots rolled to a 23-5 lead after one then went on a 17-0 run to
start the second eight minutes.
The Lions only score of the frame came at the 2:51 mark of the half on
a shot by senior Kyle Gosney.
At that point, the game was well in hand as the Patriots were up 40-7.
Behind the 35 points from the Cook’s, junior Mason McCabe added 13 with
junior Colton Linkous chipping in with a dozen.
With the victory, Tri-Village will move on to the sectional final to be
played tonight.
That game will bring on an old foe in the form of Eric Glover and the
Bethel Bees.
It was just over a month ago when the Patriots topped the Bees, 58-51
in overtime.
Tri-Village and Bethel will square off tonight at Troy in a 7 pm
scheduled tip.
