Versailles Girls
Repeat as Champs in the WOHSBC
This was like an
instant replay of the final match of the season last year for the
Versailles Varsity Girls Bowling team. They faced the Coldwater
Cavaliers, who were also undefeated last season. The Lady Tigers won
by a narrow margin of 3 pins last season. The two dominant teams were
ready to face off again as they were both undefeated. “Our
conference has a blind draw at the beginning of the season and for us
to draw Coldwater again as the last match of the season was perfect,”
said Coach Davidson.
The first game started
out with Coldwater taking an early lead as Versailles was struggling
a bit with getting lined up and converting easy spares. The Tigers
were down 829 to 904 after game 1. The second game, the girls came
out on fire and continued to make great shots and adjustments on the
lanes. Versailles took the 2nd game by a score of 988-811. Just like
Coldwater always seems to do, they started the 1st Baker game on fire
with 5 strikes in a row. Our girls never gave up and fought back to
keep the game somewhat close, 193-238. The 2nd game went to the
Tigers 234-185. The final three games were 135-166, 215-195 and
172-184.
The final score of the
match was Versailles 2766 to Coldwater 2683. “After warmups, I felt
our team had the advantage as our girls seem to bowl a little better
when the lanes are as dry as they were. Plus, we have 7 girls at any
time that can be starters. If they do not start, they know the 2 that
do not start will be called upon at any given time. The ladies really
came together as 1 today, and today just goes to show you what can
happen when you are out there as a team,” said Coach Phlipot.
“I knew this was
going to be a special group of young ladies as I started coaching
most of them as Freshman and some earlier than that. Out of the 5
seniors, 4 of them started as freshman with the other one starting as
a sophomore. It has been a real joy coaching all of these girls. Now
onto the post season!“ said Davidson.
The Tigers were led by
Hannah Niekamp 223, Megan Monnin 221, Kelsey Berning 195 and Paige
Holsapple 194.
