It’s back to the grind for area teams
By George Starks
DARKE COUNTY - Now that Christmas has passed, please allow me to wish
everyone a very happy 2014. May the New Year be kinder to you than 2013
but my reality here is sports.
Many area teams will be back in action starting tonight.
Thursday, the girls will get things underway as Versailles will
entertain Parkway in a crucial MAC contest. The Lady Tigers, under head
Coach Jackie Stonebreaker, are looking for another conference title and
will continue that quest against the Panthers.
Also on Thursday, the Greenville Lady Wave will travel to West
Carrolton in a GWOC crossover contest against the Pirates. Greenville
has yet to get its first win of the season and will look to that on the
road Thursday.
In the Cross County Conference, the Lady Jets of Franklin Monroe will
host Twin Valley South.
Friday night, the boys will be in action with only three games on the
slate.
The undefeated Versailles Tigers will head to Rockford (minus the
services of junior Kyle Ahrens) to battle Parkway.
In the GWOC, Greenville will battle Piqua in a GWOC North battle.
Greenville has one of the best teams around and will look to prove its
worth against the Indians.
In the Cross County Conference, 6-0 Tri-Village will look to stay
untouched as the Patriots head to Lewisburg to play the Tri-County
North Panthers.
In other action Friday, Ansonia will play at National Trail,
Mississinawa Valley, fresh off a 1-1 record in the Jet Tournament will
travel to Arcanum. The Hawks topped the Trojans, 67-61 in the opening
game of the annual tournament.
Also on Friday, the undefeated Franklin Monroe Jets (8-0) will head to
Bradford.
Schedule Time Change:
The Tri-Village’s boys basketball game at Tri-County North on Friday
has been moved up to a 5 p.m. junior varsity start, as Ohio State plays
in the Orange Bowl on Friday, causing some teams across the state to
change basketball starting times.
