Saturday’s
Leg of 32nd annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek Leads Into July 11 &
12
Kings Royal
ROSSBURG,
OH (June 17) – With an ultra-successful Dirt Late Model Dream now
complete, Eldora Speedway’s focus now shifts towards winged Sprint
Cars; beginning with this Saturday’s (June 21) NKTelco Ohio Sprint
Speedweek showdown and continuing through the 31st annual Kings Royal
weekend (July 11 & 12).
Introduced
in 1983 by Eldora founder Earl Baltes, the Ohio Sprint Speedweek has
been a fixture in the Buckeye state since. While the participating
speedways and length of the grueling week have varied over the years,
Speedweek remains a focal point on the Sprint Car scene.
The
UNOH All Star Sprints has overseen Speedweek since its beginning and
brings into this year’s nine day stretch parity unmatched in
sanctioned-racing. With 12 events completed thus far into 2014, the
travelling series boasts of 11 different winners. Lee Jacobs, the
third generation driver from Holmesville, OH has been the only driver
to repeat a victory.
Among
the winner’s list and expected to be in competition is an Eldora
fan-favorite, Jac Haudenschild of Wooster, OH. Having earned the
moniker ‘the Wild Child’ for his boldness behind the wheel of a
Sprint Car, Haudenschild enters Saturday’s Eldora chase on a
streak. He captured both of the All Star-sanctioned events on the
high-banks last season and as the new season is unfolding; he sits
third in series points, eight points behind second-place Aliquippa,
PA’s Tim Shaffer and 113 markers behind point leader Dale Blaney
from Hartford, OH.
Haudenschild’s
two 2013 wins moved him into third on the all-time All Star win list
at Eldora with nine victories dating back to his first triumph on
July 22, 1994. Kenny Jacobs, father to Lee, heads up that list with
his 21 visits to Eldora’s hallowed victory lane.
Completing
Saturday’s tripleheader, presented by NKTelco, will be the UMP
DIRTcar Modifieds and Eldora Stock Cars as they continue their chase
in the Eldora point race.
For
the winged Sprint Cars, it will be their final opportunity to gain
Eldora track time before the prestigious Kings Royal weekend. Friday’s
(July 11) Knight Before the Kings Royal will set the stage
for the traditional pomp and circumstance that surrounds the Kings
Royal and a $50,000 payday on Saturday, July 12.
