Juvenile
Diabetes targeted in annual event

GREENVILLE-
Black smoke filled the air Friday and Saturday at the Darke County
fairgrounds.
Tractor
pullers from near and far, in conjunction with Lucas Oil, converged
on the grounds for its annual pull benefiting juvenile diabetes.
It
was the sixth year for the annual event that was started by the Barga
family of Ansonia.
The
fight against this dreaded disease is something that hits close to
home for the Barga’s.
“We
chose the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation because we have four
children that have the diabetes,” said Ron Barga of Ansonia. “This is
a battle they will have their whole life and it’s important that we
continue to help the research to make life as normal as possible for
these children.”
In
the six years the benefit pull has been held, the amount of the
donation has started to climb.
“In
the six years we’ve been doing this, we’ve donated over 50,000
dollars to help in the fight against juvenile diabetes,” Barga
stated. “With two days of pulling, we hope to donate 5-10 thousand
dollars.”
Last
year, the event was rained out but according to Barga, the donations
were still there.
“Even
though we were rained out, we still donated 2,000 dollars,” said
Barga. “That money was all from donors so that was a wonderful
surprise from all our sponsors that helped make a donation even
though we were rained out.”
According
to Barga, there were approximately 60 hooks on both nights pulling on
two tracks.
In
two nights of pulling, Barga pointed out both nights were awesome.
“It’s
been two night of great entertainment,” said Barga. “The power
and the noise, we love it. It’s just awesome entertainment and it’s
a sight to be seen. The children love coming out here and watching
these guys raise money for their cause. We call it Pulling For A Cure
and one day, we hope to find a cure for it.”
