University of
Dayton locks up Miller as basketball coach through 2019
By Joe Cogliano
March 29, 2014
The University of Dayton — hot off a win this weekend that sends them
to the NCAA Sweet 16 — announced it has extended the contract of
basketball coach Archie Miller through the 2018-19 season.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The school said extension conversations began in December and a
contract was signed in February, however, at the request of Coach
Miller, it was not announced publicly to avoid any distractions during
the regular season. The timing of this announcement thwarts what might
become a bigger distraction, as there has been talk of Miller as a
candidate for some high-profile coaching jobs at other schools because
of his success at U.D.
“The University of Dayton is committed to a national-level basketball
program, and this contract extension demonstrates our belief that
Archie Miller is the right leader for our program,” said Tim Wabler,
U.D. vice president and director of athletics, in a statement. “We are
proud of the academic and competitive success he has led over the last
three years, and the momentum of the program is on the path we expect.”
Note: The Flyers run stops at the Sweet 16 as Florida wins 62-52.
