Franklin
Monroe boys take it on the chin in sectional final
Troy
Christian overwhelms Jets in third quarter

TROY-
Sectional finals has not been kind to Franklin Monroe coach Troy
Myers.
It
was just a year ago when the Jets went up against Tri-Village for the
third time and lost to the Pats for the third time.
On
January 11, the Jets fell 64-58 to the Eagles at The Hangar.
Saturday,
the Eagles and the Jets hook up for the second time and the outcome
was the same as Franklin Monroe fell, 50-41 in yet another sectional
final.
Trailing
Troy Christian at the break, 19-18, in Saturday’s sectional
final, the Eagles held the high flying Jets offense to only four
points in the frame and went on to a 50-41 victory.
“We
just couldn’t get anything going offensively,” said Troy Myers.
“They were pressuring our posts pretty good. Every time we wanted
to go in there, we got the ball there but they were pretty physical
and they caused trouble for us. We couldn’t score from the outside
either. When we don’t score, we’re not very good. We were in the
locker room for over an hour talking about a lot of things. Believe
me, there was not a dry eye in there.”
In
the frame, the Eagles rolled out 15 points on offense, taking a
whopping 33-21 lead.
It
was a lead the Jets would never overcome.
On
the night, the Eagles held Franklin Monroe senior, Trey Mong, to just
three points on the night.
“The
way the game was going the first half, he wasn’t scoring those
bunnies the way he normally does,” said Myers. “He was not able
to get comfortable down in the post and they (T/C) was feeding off
that. He never got into a rhythm. He’s been scoring about 16 for us
the last ten or so games so for them to hold him down to three, it
hurt us.”
Losing
to the Eagles in mid-January, Troy Christian brought a different kind
of an attack to the floor Saturday.
They
got after our post more than they did the last time,” Said Myers.
“I think they knew the way Trey has been playing. They would double
and sometimes triple team him with a heavy helpline in the paint.
Whenever we touched it down there, they did a good job collapsing.
When we kicked it back out, they recovered. The first time we played,
we made the switches and we weren’t able to do that tonight.”
With
the loss, goes some excellent senior talent in not only Mong but
Travis Feitshans, Henry Bourne, Devin Fourman and Kayle Oswalt.
“It’s
going to be hard to replace them,” said Myers. They had my back two
years ago when I came onboard and I am grateful to have had them on
this team. Those guys laid the foundation for the kids coming up and
they will always be welcome at the gym. I am sure some of them will
come back and contribute to the program in the future. It was tough
tonight. We just didn’t have our best tonight.”
The
loss brought down the curtain on the 2014 FM Jets season that brought
the Jets a co-conference title with Tri-Village.
In
county girls action Saturday, the Versailles Tigers earned the right
to move to the regional round with a 63-20 victory over Georgetown,
winning yet another District title. The Tigers will battle Miami East
for the second time this season. This time, it will be in the
regional semi-finals at Springfield in an 8 p.m. start.
Bradford's
Cinderella season came to an end Saturday, losing to Ft. Loramie,
82-47. The Lady Railroaders season ended with a record 20 wins and
only six losses. The Railroaders also went to their very first
district game by winning the schools first ever sectional title.
Bradford won its sectional, topping Southeastern, 60-57, in four
overtimes.
