Shearer,
Galloway Both Honored As Horizon League Player Of The Week
DETROIT
(3/5/2014) -- Senior Senee Shearer (Detroit, Mich. / Pershing) and
freshman Megan Galloway (Greenville, Ohio / Greenville) both earned
Horizon League Player of the Week honors by two different
organizations as Shearer was tabbed by the HL and Galloway was
selected by College Sports Madness.
The
Titan duo helped Detroit to a pair of wins last week, giving UDM an
opportunity to host a Horizon League playoff game or even receive a
bye in the opening round.
Shearer
led UDM with 19.0 points tallying a game-high 23 against Valparaiso
and adding 15 against Youngstown State. The 23 versus the Crusaders
was her 17th 20-point outing of the season and she was 8-of-13 from
the field and 5-of-7 from behind the arc in the come-from-behind win.
Against potential first-place candidate Youngstown State, Shearer had
15 points and four assists with a pair of 3-pointers that saw her set
a new school record with 219 in her career.
On
the season, Shearer is third in the Horizon League in scoring at 19.7
points per game, and leads the HL with 3.1 three-pointers per game.
Her 85 triples are also eighth in the country.
Galloway's
accolade by College Sports Madness marks the third-straight week that
she won an award as the HL made her the Freshman of the Week the last
two weeks. Galloway was again on a tear down low posting a pair of
double-doubles and averaging 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds against
Valpo and YSU.
She
started the week by tying her career-high with 21 points on 7-of-8
shots from the field with 10 rebounds in the victory over the
Crusaders and then netted 16 points and 15 boards in the triumph
against the Penguins.
She
has now recorded three-straight double-doubles and four in the last
five games. She is averaging 8.1 points and 6.5 rebounds and shooting
a team-best 51.9%, third in the HL.
The
Titans will end the regular season on the road this week at UIC on
Thursday and at Green Bay on Saturday.
