volleyball teams having already played before this publishing, there
are many teams waiting to start tournament
action. Monday, all schools will know its fate with the exception of
the Versailles and Bradford volleyball teams as
well as the Franklin Monroe boys soccer team. These three teams drew

The journey to
state has begun

DARKE COUNTY- For many Darke County sports teams, the journey for state
gold has come and gone.
For others, it has just begun with some volleyball teams playing today
in first round sectional action.
In the D-IV Troy sectional, Franklin Monroe, Mississinawa Valley and
Ansonia all squared off in early morning matches.
The Jets battled Newton at 10 am, while Ansonia went up against Troy
Christian with the Hawks in a rematch with Twin Valley South.
If successful, the Jets will play Cedarville on Tuesday in a 6 pm start.
Ansonia will get the winner of the Bethel/Ft. Loramie game while
Mississinawa Valley will tangle with Southeastern on Wednesday in a
7:30 scheduled starting time.
Monday, the rest of the county Volleyball teams will see sectional
action with the exception of Versailles and Bradford as both schools
drew first round byes.
Monday’s scheduled line-up
In the D-II volleyball sectional at Tecumseh, Greenville (3-16 at the
time of the draw) will hook up with 8-11 Urbana in a 7:30 start. With a
win, the Wave would get Springfield Shawnee on Thursday in the second
round.
At Brookville in the D-III sectional, Arcanum (12-8) will face
Springfield Northeastern (5-15) at 6:00 pm. The Trojans are fresh off a
win at Mississinawa Valley and have won eight of their last nine
matches. With a first round victory, Arcanum will take on the winner of
the Anna/Houston contest.
Versailles will get the winner if the Milton-Union/Northridge game
being played today.
If the Trojans and Tigers remain successful, the two teams would battle
each other for the sectional title on Saturday starting at 2:30 pm.
In D-IV action being played at Tipp City Monday, pits 5-13 Tri-Village
and 13-6 Russia at 8 pm.
In soccer action, Greenville (2-12) will battle 5-6-3 Trotwood Madison
at Trotwood.
The Rams escaped with a 1-0 victory over Greenville just a little over
a week ago on a goal at the 16:36 mark by Devon Johnson.
Franklin Monroe will host the winner of the Triad/Fairlawn game on
Thursday at 7 pm. The Jets took a first round bye and will await their
opponent in the second round.
In girl’s sectional action, Greenville will travel to Tipp City a week
from today (10/18) to battle the Red-Devils starting at 2 pm.
Franklin Monroe will host its first round sectional Tuesday (10/14)
against Northeastern starting at 7 pm.
