Wave drops
tough GWOC game with Trotwood
Greenville now 2-12 overall

GREENVILLE - Take nothing away from Greenville.
“The Wave gave it everything they had and left it all on the field,”
said one referee. “It was a well-played game.”
Fighting to a 0-0 score after the first half of play, Greenville and
GWOC North foe, Trotwood went at each other deep into the second half.
With 16:36 left in the game, Trotwood’s Devon Johnson was able to break
past the Greenville defense and punch on through from 25 yards out.
That would prove to be enough to drop a 1-0 loss on Greenville, sending
the Wave down to their 12th loss of the 2014 season.
It was another loss in a season of disappointments for Greenville.
“We played with heart tonight and we never gave up,” said Wave coach
Brent Devoss. “We didn’t have quite enough on the offensive end and
that’s been our struggle most of the year. It’s been a situation of not
getting numbers forward and getting good quality looks at the goal.
There at the end, we threw everything we had at them and they held
really tight.”
In the final six minutes, Greenville had several good looks at the goal
but was constantly stopped.
“That was their back-up keeper,” said Devoss. “Tip of the cap to him.
He made a couple of great saves at the end. One almost go in at the far
post and he dove clear across the goal to make the save. He kept them
in the game. He knew what he needed to do and we couldn’t crash in
quick enough to follow it up.”
Despite playing solid defense, the Wave were constantly backing up on
defense at the Rams stayed on the attack and kept the pressure on.
“It is hard when you’re backing up,” said Devoss. “We relied on our
keeper (AJ Freris) again like we have all year and he can only keep us
in a game for so long. We’ve got to help him out sometime this year. He
had nine saves tonight.”
Many times during the game Devoss was telling his kids not to give up
the middle of the field.
“You have to control the middle of the field,” said Devoss. “We left
open that gap and it got bigger and bigger as the game wore on and we
got more tired. That allowed Johnson to utilize his skills and really
get his feet and do what he does. He created space and took it to the
goal and he caught us a little disarrayed and confused and he put one
in on us.”
Now 2-12 on the season, Greenville will travel to Sidney on Thursday
and with the tournament draw on Sunday, Devoss will be looking and
waiting.
“It’s a waiting game for us when the tournament draw comes along,” said
Devoss.
