Greenville- For the 25th consecutive year, the Darke County
Cheerleading Competition kicked off the annual Great Darke County Fair.
When the final cheer was done and the points were tallied, it was the
Tri-Village Patriots that came out on top with four competition
trophies.
In addition, Bradford senior Kelly Moore was named the grand champion
after winning the individual varsity cheer competition.
In the team competition, the Patriots took home the gold in the Pee Wee
Cheer, LG Varsity Cheer, the Junior High Cheer and tied for first in
the Varsity Dance Competition with Mississinawa Valley.
“I’m so happy, I just want to cry,” said Patriots cheer advisor
Danielle Bourne. These kids work so hard all the time. We’ve got a
group of freshman that just keeps the pedal to the metal. These kids
put in so much time to learn the routines. I think we put in about 60
hours a week just practicing for cheer and about 12 hours for dance.”
It’s no secret that Tri-Village has hung its hat on basketball over the
year as well as its cheerleading.
After a couple of years, the Pats are right back at the top of the pile
and Bourne talked about the accomplishment.
“This is my seventh year as the cheer advisor and these kids work hard
to achieve their goals,” said Bourne. “I could not be more proud of
these kids. We have great competition to go up against and we’re happy
about that. This county is just flooded with great cheerleaders and
this is wonderful.”
As for Bradford senior Kelly Moore, it was tears of joy for her.
“I had some great competition to go against and to win the individual
competition is just great,” said Moore. “The competition made me
really nervous today. I’ve been in competition with Leah (Wilburn, T-V)
before and she’s really a great competitor. They were all really good.”
This was the second year for a grand champion and Moore couldn’t have
been happier.
“I was thrilled,” said Moore. “It’s my senior year and it’s a great way
to go out.”
After high school, Moore wants to cheer at the next level, wherever
that may be.
“Cheering is my passion,” admitted Moore. “It’s the one thing I love to
do. I’m always practicing.”
Other first place winners were the UC Stateliners (Pee Wee Dance) and
Crystal Creech (NT JH Individual).
