Greenville- Once again, the Palmer family ruled supreme at the annual
NTPA Truck and Tractor Pulls at the 2015 Great Darke County Fair.
Tuesday, Mike Palmer was the first out of the gate with the Red Avenger
in the 8,500 pound Light Pro Stock Tractors with a pull of 309.015 feet.
Wednesday, it was the elder statesman, Tim Palmer that did the pulling.
Tim, was the first hook of the night, pulling the Country Classic, also
owned by Mike, took the sled 319.720 feet. That pull was good enough
for a fifth place finish on the night and was enough for the Palmers to
be crowned Grand Champion pullers for the two day event in the class.
“It feels good to be able to come here and take the overall
championship,” said Mike Palmer Wednesday night. “The run I had last
night (Tuesday) was way out ahead of what I thought it would be.”
With two tractors that are identical in looks, The Red Avenger and The
Country Classic are as different as night and day.
“The two tractors are like identical twins,” said Palmer. “They
both have their quirks and never run the same. Tuesday, it was Avenger
that ran to the win. Tonight, Country Classic had the best pull but
finished fifth. The track is different from one night to the next.
Tonight, the Country Classic got the job done but didn’t win. Either
way, the two nights combined pulls got us the overall championship.”
The pull came on Veteran’s night at the fair and Palmer took a minute
to thank the men and women of the armed forces.
“It’s because of them that we are here,” said Palmer. “They keep our
freedom intact so we can assemble here to enjoy this sport. I
appreciate what they do as do all of the pullers. We really appreciate
them.”
Wednesday, Mike Durbin of New Philadelphia, Oh, won with a pull of
329.185 feet.
Other winners Wednesday included Bernie Boer (Netherlands) in the 2,050
Open Modified Mini Tractors (338.140) driving Bobcat Jr.
In the 8,000 Lb. Unlimited Modified Tractors, Bill Vorels of Argos ,
IN., went 356.355 with the American Thunder while Terry Blackbourne
went 307.126 feet with Extremely Armed and Dangerous in the 8,000 Lb.
Open Super Stock Tractors.
In the fifth class, Dan Parkinson with the Bombardeer had a 333.235
hook to win the 9,300 pound Super Farm Tractors.
