Lady Hawks lack
in loss to Parkway

NEW MADISON- “I knew when we were warming up, we were in trouble.”
Those were the thought of Mississinawa Valley head coach Roger Collins
Tuesday after the Lady Hawks fell to Parkway, 49-43 in a non-conference
clash.
“We played pretty good in the second half but in the first half we had
no energy,” said Collins.
Holding a 10-9 lead midway through the first quarter, the Lady Hawks
looked like theyt were ready to play with the MAC team from Rockford.
Then, the Hawks went south on both ends of the floor and trailed 19-10
after one.
Things went from bad to worse in the second quarter as MV could muster
only nine points in the frame and would trail 30-19 at the break.
“We don’t know what to do or who to go to and we shot ourselves right
out of the quarter,” said Collins. “We have people that are shooting 17
percent from the field taking shots. I’ve got to shut that shot down.
We can’t allow that.”
Led by senior Mackenzie Dirmeyer with 14 points (10 rebounds) and
sophomore Kelsie Hunt with 11 points (13 boards), Collins had no help
from anyone else
Trailing 40-30 heading into the final eight minutes of play, the Hawks
got thins going and started to heat up on offense while playing some
decent defense.
With 15.8 seconds remaining, Hunt found herself at the line shooting
two.
As was the case most of the night, foul shots did not come easy as Hunt
hit one of two, closing the gap to a 47-43 count.
“Three calls down there (offensive end) made a difference in the game,”
Collins said. “Mackensie got fouled on all three of those shots and it
was not called. We couldn’t hit fouls shots tonight (7/18). Some
nights, we hit 85 percent and the next game we shoot air balls.
Basketball is a mental game and if you’re not mentally prepared to
play, you’re not going to play hard. Too many unforced turnovers.”
With the loss, the Blackhawks fall to 8-11 on the season and will host
Houston on Monday before closing out the 2014-15 season at Newton next
Thursday.
