Tri-Village superintendent, Josh Sagester, address the media and those in attendance as he
announced that Tri-Village will be adding football in the fall of 2015.

Football finally arrives at Tri-Village
By George Starks

NEW MADISON- “This press conference was requested to share our thrilling information regarding the athletic landscape of Tri-Village Local Schools. AAs you are aware, we have a vibrant educational and athletic heritage and we aspire to see it prosper.  Therefore, on behalf of the Administration, Board of Education and Athletic Department of the Tri-Village Local School District, we are pleased to announce that Tri-Village will be adding football to the list of extracurricular offerings available to our student athletes through a phased in process over a four year period beginning the fall of 2015.”

Those words received standing ovation by all in attendance Monday night as Josh Sagester, Tri-Village superintendent, made the announcment that football will finally reached the grounds of Tri-Village.

“That made me feel really good to see the support here tonight and to hear the standing ovation and to know we’re going to have the support behind us,” said Sagester.

“This has been in the works for quite some time,” Sagester continude after the official announcement. “I’ve done some factfinding over the past several months, trying to piece some items together. This is a very exciting time for Tri-Village. We are going to continue to add to our vibrant heritage here by adding a football team.”

With the addition of football, Sagester eluded to the aspect of the fact it will open new doors for the students at Tri-Village.

“The addition of football will add more opportunities for our kids and to me, that’s the job of the superintendent,” said Sagester. “This will help ensure that our kids will get the desirable educational opportunities as well and attractive extra-curricular opportunities.”

Over the course of the past 43 years, football was never to be considered as many felt it would hurt the basketball program.

Sagester shed positive light on that issue.

“I’m going to take my superintendent hat off and put my athletic hat on,” Sagester stated. “I was a quarterback, shortstop and point guard in high school (Brookville) so I was a multi-sport athlete. It can be done. It’s all about time management and working together and to me, it’s not even an issue. It’s all about providing our kids opportunities and this is something that I believe the community will rally around, our kids will rally around it and our stakeholders and we’re going to find a way to improve our athletic facility and we’re going to find a way to get our kids to be successful.”

In only his second year at the helm of Tri-Village, Sagester admitted that he’s heard the people speak.

“In only my second year as superintendent, certainly I’ve had some people approach me but as I stated, it’s my responsibility to make sure our kids are getting the cutting edge opportunities and to me, this is something that our kids will benefit from and that’s what we’re bringing here to New Madison.”

In the press release Sagester made one thing clear to all in attendance.

“This project will be funded in a variety of ways but will not include increased or additional tax burdens,” Sagester pointed out. “ A fundraising campaign will be launched, advertising opportunities available, corporate sponsorships, our Athletic Department and pending Board approval, our local BOE may supplement a portion as well.  However, we recognize this evening we may not address all questions the community may have regarding this decision therefore, we will release a Frequently Asked Question sheet on our website within the next 24 hours to help answer some of those remaining questions. As always, community members are welcomed to contact the Administration, a Board of Education member and/or attend a Board of Education meeting for any follow up conversation.  Following the press conference this evening, the administration will be available for any follow up questions by the local media.  Again, thank you for joining us for this exciting announcement.  As the superintendent of schools, I’m overjoyed regarding the future of Tri-Village Local Schools and together we can continue to provide outstanding opportunities for our kids.”

(Sagester, along with athletic director Brad Grey had much more to talk about on this issue. Watch CNO for more on this breaking story.)
