Lady Bowlers place 4th at Pioneer Classic

On Jan. 19 the Lady Bowlers took the lanes at Westgate Lanes in Lima, OH for the Pioneer Classic in a 16 team tournament.  “This is a good tournament where we are able to compete against some of the top teams in the state.  The format is similar to that of the OHSAA tournament in that we bowl 3 individual games with 5 baker games and then a cut occurs to include only the top 8 teams to bowl in a bracket format where advancement occurs with the best out of five baker games.”  Versailles qualified 4th at the cut and then finished 4th overall.  Individual high scores included Hannah Niekamp (179, 156, 181=516 series), Megan Ward (180), Olivia Berning (165, 170), and Bridgette Holsapple (162).  After the cut the team defeated Lima Shawnee and then had a tough meeting with Coldwater with 3 close games but ended up with the loss. “I was pleased with how the girls bowled as a team.  The oil pattern was very difficult for the girls due to dry lanes but they made adjustments when needed and did a great job.  Our hard work continues to pay off and should set us up for success as the season continues, “ said Coach Phlipot.
