Six down, two to go for Patriots

NEW MADISON- When the regular season ended, Tri-Village coach Josh was asked if his kids had 8 more wins left them.

The only thing Sagester could say was, "I hope so."

That was six games ago and number seven will happen Thursday at 2 pm.

Tri-Village (28-0) will hook up with Tuscarawas Central Catholic (TCC 25-3) in Columbus.

The Patriots are in a familiar situation being in the state semifinals a year ago.

In that game, Tri-Village fell victim to Convoy Crestview, by four points, the eventual state champions.

On the flip side, TCC has won 13 straight, including avwin over Berlin Hiland for the sectional title and regional wins over Magodore and Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas, last years state runner-up.

They are making their first ever trip to Columbus.

The Saints will feature 5-11 East Player of the Year, Mitchell Herein.

Herron, post player Alex Milleman and reserve point guard, Max Fraggase.

The Patriots will come in, ranked number one in D-IV boys basketball.

They will feature two of the best players in the state in seniors Colton Linkous and Damien Cook but this is not a team that relies on just two players.

The Patriots have proven than any number of players can get the job done.

That all starts with Tyler VanWinkle.

The Patriot junior runs the point and is the table setter on offense.

He not only has Linkous and Cook but senior Mason McCabe and sophomore Gavin Richards...all can light it up from outside and can drive the lane. This includes VanWinkle who can and will pull the trigger from outside the arc.

Sagester also has a solid bench and two that can hurt the opposition in Knox Morris and Brent Bitter and Sagester has no problem in going to them.

The winner will square off against the winner of the other semi-final game Saturday. The opposition will be either 24-4 Harvest Prep or Wayne Trace, 25-1.

The game can be heard on wtgr 97.5 or on wtgr.com. it can also be heard on you smart phone or Android tablet using TuneInRadio. That app can be obtained in your p!aystore.
