High School Boys Bowlers Improve to 2-1
The boys High School bowling team traveled to Coldwater, OH on November
21 to bowl against the Wapakoneta Redskins. “Wapakoneta is a defending
state champion team with 6 returning bowlers so we knew it would be a
tough match,” said Coach Phlipot. The Tigers came home with their first
season loss 2847 to 2386. High game bowlers this week were Brody Hyre
(199), Alex Groff (191), Kyle Cotner (179), and Jacob Wening (171).
Wapakoneta had 5 bowlers throwing above a 200 average making it very
difficult to beat.
On November 28 the Tigers then traveled to Woodcrest Lanes in Union
City to bowl against the Russia Raiders. “The lanes were very dry
for the second shift so a lot of adjustments had to be made. Some
bowlers were even throwing their spare ball for their first roll,” said
Coach Phlipot. The boys were able to add on a second victory to their
record winning 2287 to 1895. High game went to Luke Shellhaas (200).
Also, bowling well for the Tigers were Alex Groff (180), Jacob Wening
(167), and Brody Hyre (165). “We are still looking for a 5th teammate
to step up and bowl a higher average. We need to start jiving together
as a team in Bakers,” said Coach Phlipot. The Tigers take on Marion
Local on December 12 in New Breman, OH.
Lady Bowlers improve record to 2-1
On November 21 the Tiger Bowlers went to Coldwater, OH to bowl against
the Celina Bulldogs in a close match. They came home with a loss
2129 to 2101. “Coldwater is always a tough place to bowl because the
lanes are oiled in a pattern that is difficult,” said Coach Phlipot.
Makenzie Berning bowled a high game of 171. Also contributing to
the Tigers overall score were high games from Hannah Niekamp (157) and
Olivia Berning (167).
The following week the Tigers went to Woodcrest Lanes in Union City to
bowl against the Minster Wildcats. They were able to come home with a
win 2182 to 1729. Morgan Heitkamp led the girls with a high
game of 183; also commendable scores came from Makenzie Berning 180 and
Hannah Niekamp 175. “The lanes were dry which causes more ball
movement,” said Coach Phlipot. “The exposure to tough lanes is
beneficial for the girls. We are still not bowling to our
potential but continue to work hard in practice.”
