PITSBURG- It was obvious right from the opening serve between Franklin Monroe and Tri-County North (TCN) that the Jets were the more dominate team.

Just how dominate was anyone’s guess.

When the final whistle had blew, Franklin Monroe had rolled to a three set victory, 25-7, 25-15 and 25-6.

It was a night when the Lady Jets were firing on all cylinders while the Panthers were being slowly and methodically declawed.

With sets one and three being made to look easy as the only Panther points seemed to come of Jet miscues, it was the second set that proved to be a little shaky at times as North looked to give the Jets a game.

“We were a little rocky at times in that set,” said FM coach Amy Booher. “”I think we lost a little of our focus after the opening set win but the girls got it together and picked up the win.”

To say the Jets played a perfect game would not be the case but FM had all aspects of the game covered, starting with the serve-receive.

“We work all the time on our serve-receive,” said Booher. “This is something we focus on very much in practice. It all starts on the back row and if we aren’t getting the job done there, we won’t win many matches. That is the most critical part of the game.”

Once the receive was made, then came mostly flawless sets.

“We’ve had great sets all year,” Booher stated. “The setter is the glue of the team. Without good passes and good sets to our hitters, again, we don’t win. We had very few mistakes in our setting tonight.”

After the set comes the kill and again, the Jets clicked, keeping the Panthers on their heels and continually backing up.

On defense, the Jets net play was superb and Booher had nothing but praise on a night when very little was said.

”Our net play was great,” Booher pointed out. “The girls have hit the ball well and Morgan (Booher) had several blocks for us. We came out strong and stayed strong the whole night.”

With all the good, there was some not so good.

A lack of energy was talked about as the Jets showed very little emotion after big plays, especially when aces were recorded.

“We are very quiet and bring very little energy despite the way we played,” said Booher. “We’ve got to bring more energy to the floor during the game. Even if we are winning big, we need to keep our energy level high. We don’t always do this. It’s something we need to work on.”

Now 6-1 and 2-0 in the CCC, FM will play National Trail tonight then will face three heavy hitters next week in Miami East, Covington and Arcanum.
