Horses flirt with track records
By George Starks
GREENVILLE- Just like some rules, records were made to be broken.
With all the rain that had been dumped on the track at the Great Darke
County FairWednesday, a fast track was a part of some fast times.
With 18 races on the card, the track record for the pace (1:52.4) set
by My Kind A Chip in the Reigle Memorial a year ago, nine races came in
under the coveted two minute mark.
The quickest of those paced came in the sixth race of the night.
With speed being the name of the game, Sir Howie’s Z Tam, driven by
Hunter Myers, scored a 1:55.2 in the mile, beating out Rock Me Please
(Doug Rideout) and Marky Mike (Bobby Werner)
With a record time for the trotters being 1:59, Celtic Merchant, driven
by Stephen Oldford, hit the finish line with a blistering time of
1:59.4. Only 4/5 of a second off the track record.
It was also a night of firsts for the Hope Racing family.
Since the inception of the Tom Hope Sr. Memorial, it has been the
grandson of the late Tom Hope, Chris that has won this race.
That until now.
Wednesday, there were two highly contested races for the Hope Memorial.
In the first leg, it was Doug Rideout taking Arizona Dawn to the
winners circle in a time of 1:58.1.
In the second leg in the 16th race of the night, it was Jack Daily
taking top honors behind Caviart Valley in 2:00.3.
Chris Hope competed in the second leg but did not finish in the top
three as Citori and Kilowatts Fantasy came in second and third.
In the Parshall Futurity races, the 10th brought out the two year olds
and it was Rideout taking Source Merlin to the win in 2:03 flat.
The following race saw the three year olds and this time it was Beau
Brown and Friskie Cruiser going to the winners circle in another fast
time, 1:56.3.
Once again the two year olds hit the track in the 13th and this time it
was Tyler Rush picking up the win behind Chelsee’s A Winner in 2:02.3.
In the 14th, it was once again the three year olds and Donald Doc with
Ryan Miller driving it home in 1:58.3
