Beagle Honors Olympic Medalist from Darke County

COLUMBUS - State Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City) presented a resolution to Clayton Murphy honoring him for winning a bronze medal in the 800-meter race at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

"Darke County is immensely proud of Clayton’s accomplishments," said Beagle.

A graduate of Tri Village High School in New Madison, Ohio, Murphy, at age 21, earned a bronze medal in the 800-meter run during the 2016 Olympics Games.

During Wednesday's ceremony in the Ohio Senate, Murphy shared how growing up on his family's swine farm in Darke County helped prepare him for the regimented training schedule required of an Olympic athlete.

As a senior at the University of Akron, Murphy's the first United States runner to medal in the 800-meter since 1992, three years before he was born.
