awards DCSF scholarships
Dave Knapp Ford-Lincoln, awarded two scholarships to local high school
graduates through the Darke County Scholarship Fund (formerly the
Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund) July 13. The presentation was made by
Dave Knapp Marketing Director Kristina Bradley-Knapp.
This is the fourth year Dave Knapp Ford has helped DCSF support local
athletes in their college goals. The 2016 scholarships went to Dane
Wentworth, Ansonia High School, and Ashton Kester, Greenville High
School.
In 15 games played, Dane had a .372 batting average with a .400 on base
percentage. He had 16 hits and scored 13 runs with a home run and three
doubles. He had a .511 slugging percentage and in the outfield his
fielding percentage was .923. Dane will be attending Wilmington
University, pursuing a degree in education.
In 32 games played, Ashton had a .457 batting average. Over 94 plate
appearances, she had 43 hits with 40 runs scored. She collected 12
doubles, three triples, two home runs and three stolen bases. At
shortstop, she also had a fielding percentage of .868. In her senior
year Ashton was named to first team, All Greater Western Ohio
Conference. Aston will be attending Findlay University, pursuing a
degree in veterinary science.
The Darke County Scholarship Fund was formed in 2008 as the Senior
Scribes Scholarship Fund. Since that time nearly $69,000 in
scholarships have been awarded to deserving students pursuing their
college goals.
