New season
brings on new hopes in Patriot Nation
Football goes varsity in only second season
By George Starks
NEW MADISON- With football in only its second full season at
Tri-Village, Pats coach Jason Schondelmyer is pumped up and ready for
it to go full force.
But what’s the kids and community thinking?
Are they ready?
“I think some of them don’t quite know what to expect,” said the
Patriots coach. “Now with the stadium and press box being up, it’s more
real not only to the kids but the community. They can see all of this
and they know it’s the real thing and is actually happening. I don’t
think they will really grasp it until that first Friday night and the
lights come on and the band’s on the field and the fans are there. I
really think they need to see it all before they believe it. It’s
Friday night under the lights and you can’t beat it. It’s great to have
fall football and it’s great to enjoy your boys not only in the winter
and the spring but also in the fall. It also gives your community a
rallying point every fall on a night to come and support your team.”
Once the first real varsity hit is made and the nerves are gone, can
the Patriots compete at the varsity level so soon?
“I think so. I think we’re right where we need to be right now,” said
Shondo. “I like where our schedule is and I think if we continue to
improve, I think this team can have a nice little run through the ten
games we have on our schedule. I don’t want to make any predictions
yet, it’s just a little too early yet but I think we can have a nice
little run.”
Scholdelmyer went on to say that he was very happy to have 10 games on
his schedule and as a coach, he’s positive about the future of
Tri-Village football.
With a hodgepodge of a schedule, being forced to play independent
schools, the Patriots will open with Dayton Jefferson on August 26. The
team will travel to Wes Del in Indiana for a game and on October 19,
T-V will play at Bradford.
