Malik Thurman
to Play for Urbana University
Apr 19, 2016
Malik Thurman (Stebbins HS) has signed a letter of intent to play
basketball at Urbana University following his successful career at
Edison State Community College.
"Malik is a phenomenal athlete and young man," said Rob Summers men's
head basketball coach at Urbana University. "We are excited about him
bringing his energy on the court to Urbana University and look forward
to helping him grow both as a player and as a person."
During his two–year career at Edison State, Thurman reached a
1,000-point milestone, was named to First Team All-OCCAC, and also
received OCCAC player of the week honors twice. On the court, Thurman
averaged 19.3 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game.
It was at Edison State where he was able to build a foundation that
helped lead him to where he is today. "Playing here at Edison State
showed me how much I was going to have to work if I wanted to make it
to the next level," added Thurman. "And, academically, it eased me into
the college experience – not having the same distractions as I would at
a larger four-year university."
"The opportunity to play at Urbana is huge," said Thurman. "I think I
will fit in well and it's so close to home so that my family will be
able to support me at the games."
The 6-foot-2-inch guard hopes to continue his success while playing at
Urbana. "My biggest goal is to hopefully be in the starting lineup,"
said Thurman. "Another goal, while I'm playing at Urbana, is to, of
course, win a championship."
During his time at Urbana, Thurman will continue his academic pursuit
toward a bachelor's degree in marketing.
