Dohn Academy proves to be no competition

NEW MADISON- No matter what one might think, every game this season for
Tri-Village football will always be a first.
Coming into Friday’s game with Dohn Academy of Cincinnati, the Patriots
seen their first ever fall homecoming game.
It was a night that proved to be quite successful for Patriot Nation.
After Kaylor Pearson and Jonny Wilson were named the 2016 homecoming
queen and king, it was the Dohn Panthers that were eventually crowned.
In its first fall homecoming and in front of a packed house, the
Patriots rolled to a nice 37-8 victory over the visiting Panthers,
snapping a two game losing streak.
“For our first ever homecoming and for our guys to come out here, this
is huge,” said Patriots coach Jason Schondelmyer. “It’s been a rough
two weeks for us and with all the preparation and for us to go two
weeks without a win, we came out here and got it done tonight. I’m very
proud of the guys.”
Tri-Village took the game right to the Panthers early in the first
quarter.
After Dohn went five plays and out, the Patriots went on the attack.
Starting at their own 47, the Patriots went 53 yards on only four
plays, capped off by an 11 yard run by junior Jared Buckley at the 7:10
mark.
The score remain that way until the 8:22 point of the half when Wilson
hit Noah Burns for a 10 yard pass and score, giving the Pats a nice
14-0 advantage.
Less than two minutes later, Tri-Village scored a safety and then went
up 23-0 with 15.6 seconds left on the first half clock.
“We came out ready to play and went on the attack right from the
start,” said the Patriots coach. “Our kids were focused and ready to
roll tonight. We were able to do tonight what we wanted to do with
their guys up on the line of scrimmage. We need to learn how to get
those hard yards and tonight we did a pretty good job of that.”
Up 23 at the break, the Patriots went up 30-0 on a two yard run by
Wilson with 7:04 left in the third and then would take a 37-0 lead with
seven minutes left in the game on a two yard plunge by Trey Frech.
The biggest defensive play of the night would be turned in by senior
Gavin Richards with 2:13left to play in the third.
With Dohn driving and looking to score, sitting on the Patriots two
yard line, Richards picked off a pass at the goal line, returning it to
the Pats 32.
“The defense is doing a better job. Each week we’re making more and
more plays,” said Schondelmyer. “The pick by Gavin in a crucial
situation was huge play for us. Gavin is a senior and in his first
season of football so that was a great play on his count.”
Running back Brooks Crockett would score late in the game on a four
yard run for the Panthers only score of the night.
Now holding a 3-4 mark, the Patriots will look to get their first road
win of the season next Friday at Bradford.
The Railroaders won 31-2 over Dayton Jefferson Friday to go to 2-5 on
the season.
