Tigers will look toward Anna in week three

VERSAILLES- Coming off a win a week ago at Celina, the Versailles
Tigers looked to make it two straight Friday. This time, the Tigers
were looking to defend their home turf against Valley View.
In the past, the two teams would often wage a battle that might go down
to the final second. Friday, that wasn’t the case.
A potent Valley View offense went through the Versailles defense like a
hot knife through butter.
On the other side of the coin, the Tigers offense more resembled a
checking account that was bouncing one bad check after another.
After 48 minutes of play, the scoreboard showed a 35-0 loss as
Versailles fell to 1-1 on the young season.
On a night when the Tigers errors would prove to be their own demise,
the Spartans would prove to be able to capitalize at virtually every
turn.
On one occasion, the Tigers were able to recover a Valley View fumble,
deep in their own territory as the Spartans were looking to punch the
ball over.
As fate would have it on this night, Versailles would give the ball
back just three plays later and the Spartans would once again take
advantage by scoring just a few seconds later.
“Valley View is a good team and they caused us to make some mistakes,”
said Versailles coach Adam Miller. We’re very disappointed in what we
saw out there as far as technique is concerned. We got exposed and
we’ve got a lot of room to improve.”
After the Tigers took the opening kick to their own 30, Versailles was
forced to punt it away only five plays later as Valley View took the
ball on its own 24.
With 4:35 remaining on the opening quarter clock, it was junior
quarterback Collin Wood would throw a 25 yard strike to senior Devin
Vantrease for the score.
That would be the beginning of the end for the Tigers.
Valley View would score again on its next possession at the 11:55 mark
of the second off a five yard run by Genslinger for a 14-0 advantage.
By the end of the half, the Spartans held a 21-0 lead on their way to a
35-0 win.
With the Tigers offense nonexistent, Valley View featured junior Collin
Genslinger.
Genslinger ran the ball seven times in the first half, accounting for
105 yards rushing of the 153 total for the Spartans.
“We knew coming in that he was tough,” said Miller. “We knew we
couldn’t stop him and we were hoping to keep him in front of us but
that didn’t happen.”
With two games in the books, the Tigers will travel to Anna next to
face the always tough Rockets.
“We told the kids that it’s all about how you respond,” said Miller.
“How we’re going to respond to it will determine how we respond to the
rest of the season.”
