Do not refuse to
try by Elizabeth Horner
We live in a glass box, thinking it’s better
To view the world that way
We can be distant, we can be shaded
From truths that cause us pain
‘Cause the reality is harsher
Than what we wish it to be
But there’s beauty, in the things
We’ve chosen not to see
Think of the thunder, the lightning
Things we’ve come to fear
And yet singers write of the poetry
In Heaven shedding tears
Remember your battles, your healing scars
They are more than just old hurts
Your trials have taught you about yourself
And what your pride is worth
Our deepest fears and anxieties
Stop us from falling far
But are we preventing ourselves from taking risks
Or actually kissing the stars?
When faced with a mountain, or a molehill
We can’t skirt around our dreams
Just ‘cause the journey is riddled with holes
Doesn’t mean we can’t succeed
So the next time, you’re terrified
To put your heart out on the line
Know that the only way, you’re sure to fail
Is if you refuse to try
