A Teen Revival in
Darke County
By Kalista King
It’s been said that our current teenage generation continues to spiral
downward as more and more teens become lazy, disrespectful, and
unwilling to strive for their dreams and goals. Though this is true to
many people, I can tell you as a peer to these so called, “teen
hooligans,” there has been a change in many of the lives of these
teenagers in Darke County.
I have been witnessing what I call, “revival,” break out in Greenville
City Schools, and have seen it begin to spread to other schools in the
Darke County area as well, as teens are beginning to express a new
desire for something more in life than the drugs and weekend parties.
These “highs” wear off and leave them feeling empty once the weekend is
over, and as I’ve heard it said many times by the very same teens who
participate in these illegal activities, “there has to be something
more to life because this just isn’t enough.”
We teens in Greenville High School have begun a student-lead ministry
this year called Friend2Friend, (also known as F2F), through Miami
Valley’s Youth for Christ organization. We meet on Tuesday mornings
before school and begin by splitting up into small groups and sharing
about our highs, lows, and spiritual encounters in the past week. Then,
we pray for our lost friends and discover what God has for us through
His Word by reading a scripture for the week.
F2F has gone from 3 students to 50+ students in the past 5 months and
seems to continue growing each week! This ministry is all about
reaching out to those who are lost in our school and building
relationships with others. It not only helps us Believers grow in our
faith, but it also helps other teens who feel lost and helpless find a
family of Believers who work together to help one another grow closer
to our loving Creator.
F2F is all about supporting and encouraging each other to discover
God’s best for our lives and to live according to His purpose.
Through F2F, we have also begun an event on Saturday nights called
Saturday Night Prayer. This event is a special time for teens to escape
from the chaos of the world and come get in touch with God as we spend
time with Him through prayer and devotion. We not only have students
from Greenville who are coming to Prayer but also students from
Arcanum, Tri-Village, and soon FM, Ansonia, and Versailles!
As I mentioned previously, this “revival” is spreading quickly, and
it’s reaching many teens who are longing for more in life than just
going through the motions.
It has been such a privilege for me to be a part of this revival and
watch these teens step up and answer the call that God has for their
lives. I truly believe that this is only the start to a revival in the
teen generation that this world has never seen!
