Graduate to the Next Level
By Christy L. Riley
“You have the brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.
And you know what you know.
You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.” – Dr. Suess
Each year youth graduate from one grade to the next: elementary school
to junior high, junior high to high school, high school to college
and/or life, college to life, and from life itself. There are so many
people out there trying to tell each one of us what we should do, what
direction or path to take, asking us questions, and many graduates just
lost in the whole process of graduating. This year, I decided to ask
some graduating high school students what their future plans.
Ralph Waldon Emerson once said, “Do not go where the path may lead; go
instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”
“Attend Taylor University, major in philosophy, graduate and
speak/teach in churches and ultimately change the world.” - Joshua
“What I plan on doing after high school is to go to Edison or maybe
Sinclair to Become a preschool teacher or 1st or 2nd grade teacher.” –
Leanna
“I hope your dreams take you… to the corners of your smiles, to the
highest of your hopes, to the windows of your opportunities, and to the
most special places your heart has ever known.”- Unknown
“I will be working at an airlines and attending college.” - Ethan
Nelson Mandela put it best when he said, “Education is the most
powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
“I am going to Sinclair for education.”- Cassidy
“Behind every success is endeavor…Behind endeavor, ability…Behind
ability, knowledge…Behind knowledge, a seeker.” -- Unknown
“I’ll probably move in with Mike and Sarah [my older brother and
sister-in-law] as long as they’re in the Dayton area and pay rent to
them. Attend Sinclair for Aviation Mechanics and get my Private Pilot’s
license then I’ll go into philosophy and seminary.” - Zac
So this year as you attend graduation ceremonies, parties, or graduate
yourself; may we all remember that life is a lifelong learning
experience. One in which we all grow and change hopefully to graduate
to the next level.
