Deep
Fried Food

This
reporter, for one, can't get her mind around the amount of food that
they're
deep frying. That said, I'm fairly adventurous when it comes to food,
so I've
made it a personal goal to try something new deep-fried every year.
Last year,
it was deep-fried Coca-Cola. This year? Deep-fried brownie.
I
spent about two hours wandering around the farm and looking for
concession
stands with actual deep-fried food. Not being one to actually want to
try a
deep-fried pickle, I was going through my options.
I
found three that appealed to me: deep-fried pie, deep-fried smores, and
deep-fried brownies. I'm only a fan of certain kinds of pie, so I
bypassed that
rather quickly. Smores are always good, but I'm a big fan of brownies.
And so,
deep fried brownie.
The
experience was not wholly bad, but not one that I think I would like to
experience again.
The
brownie was covered with deep-fried batter, sprinkled with powdered
sugar and
drizzled with chocolate. There were chocolate chips inside the brownie,
which,
during the process, the brownie was hot and the chips melted. It looked
a bit
funny, no doubt, but it didn't taste all bad.
Any
fan of brownies knows that a warm brownie is typically a good brownie.
The
batter surrounded it was all right. In my particular case, not all of
it was
cooked thoroughly, and maybe that was a bad thing, but it didn't taste
bad? I'm
not sure how the process is supposed to work.
In
the end, I ended up eating the brownie out of its batter casing. I ate
about
half of the batter before I decided that I just liked the brownie
better.
That
said, I don't want to turn people away from it. It's a fairly popular
concession
stand, I found, with the deep-fried pie (which I have heard is
delicious) and
other deep-fried antics. I'm not a fan of the batter casing in
particular, but
it wasn't bad. It is just one of those things where you either like it,
or
don't. And I'm sort of picky.
But,
I suggest, if you're adventurous and not picky like me, go for it. It's
definitely something to try. I mean, how many times do you hear "I had
a
deep-fried brownie!"? It's worth the experience if you like that sort
of
thing.
P.S.
I can't remember if I said anything about deep-fried Coca-Cola last
year, but I
recommend that as well. That's really good. Very rich, but good.
Enjoy
the rest of the fair! Get some of that deep-fried food before it's
gone!
