A
Miracle We Never Saw Coming
By
Kalista King & Kate Summers
On
Friday, I received some very
exciting news about a friend who has been in my prayers for a long
time. This
friend claimed to be an "atheist" and did not want much to do with
God. However, he did read his Bible quite often and even went to youth
group at
Grace Brethren Church here in Greenville. I never really understood how
he
could go to youth group, around so many believers, yet not believe
himself.
The
news I received a couple days ago literally
brought me to tears because he had been on my heart for so long, and
was
honestly one of the last people I expected to make the decision that he
did!
Though I am thrilled about this, I have asked someone who is in the
same youth
group as him to share the full story with you.
We
are going to leave this person anonymous
so just know that the individual we are talking about is a dear friend
of ours.
The girl whom I have asked to write this article with me is named Kate
Summers,
and she is a sophomore at Arcanum High School. Please be attentive as
she
shares what God has been doing in her life and the miracle that took
place on
Wednesday.
Kate:
I came to know Christ in the seventh
grade when I went on a retreat with my youth group. It was on
the second
night of the retreat that I gave my life to him.
I could feel him
working in me right away. It felt great to know that God was with me
everywhere
I went and to know that if I ever felt alone, he was always there with
me no
matter what.
This
past Wednesday, my faith in God was
renewed. Because of what happened that night, I felt like I had the
power to go
out and share my faith with anyone and everyone. This concerns the
friend that
Kalista was talking about earlier who was an "atheist." At youth
group, we had a testimony night where the kids who
went on Grace's youth
retreat the previous weekend shared how God worked in them while they
were
there. They all came back with the mindset of, "I do not care
if people judge
me for believing in God."
Seeing
them like this and hearing them say
those words inspired me to the verge of tears. After we were done
sharing and
were getting ready to leave, our youth pastor came out with a big smile
on his
face saying that our friend (who had been coming to our youth group for
a few
years) gave his life to Christ.
When
I heard this, I just stood there in
disbelieve for a little bit, then I gave him a big hug saying, "Welcome
to
the family, my brother in Christ!" I didn't even go to bed
until 1 in
the morning that night because I was completely overwhelmed! I
have been
so encouraged by what God is doing, that I couldn't care less what
people think
of me for having faith in Him. God has given me a new passion and
strength that
I have never had before. Through all of this, He has shown me
that He
truly is mighty to save and He is definitely at work in teenagers all
over
Darke County!
