Revival at
Tri-Village just around the corner
By Kalista King & Alex Baker
Often times, teens tend to fall back into their old ways after they
come to know Christ due to many reasons. However, I think that one of
the main reasons is because they don’t get plugged into anything that
will help them grow in their faith and put them around other believers
to encourage them spiritually.
Unfortunately, it’s true that teenagers quickly lose interest in their
faith if they are not involved in anything that helps keep their focus
on God.
This is why Darke County has been buzzing with so much activity for the
youth to get involved in. The teens who I have been talking about in
each of my articles are not the ordinary, trouble-making teenagers that
you constantly hear about or the luke-warm, Christian teenagers that
just go through the motions to be a “good” person.
We teens have a huge desire to see a change in the hearts and lives of
our generation. Therefore we will not back down, fade away, or freeze
up when it comes to our faith. There have been many incredible things
happening in our lives, and we long to share this passion in our hearts
with others.
In this article, I wanted you to be able to hear from someone who has
recently committed her entire life to following Christ and has stuck
with it since. This girl goes my the name of Alex Baker, and I have
grown very close with her over the past few months as I’ve seen the
steady changes in her lifestyle and behavior.
I know that her commitment will last for a lifetime as she grows closer
to God and deeper in her faith. She is an outstanding leader with
unbelievable potential to change the world. This is what we teen
believers in Darke County are all about; spreading this revival
throughout the world one step at a time. Our hope is that our teen
generation will continue to rise up and answer the call to be lifetime
committed followers of Jesus Christ.
Alex...
For years I had struggled to keep my life on track, and definitely keep
my thoughts on God. I was raised around Christian friends, but that did
not make things any easier for me. After I figured out that the path I
was going down wasn’t going to get me anywhere, I gave up.
But, I found a new way to fulfill my desires: God!
I accepted Christ as my personal Lord and Savior in September of 2011,
but I kept my new life secret. I was too afraid of what my “friends”
would think about me. Naturally, as a teenager alone in a new Christian
world, I began to fade away from God, never making Him a priority...
only an option.
Little did I know that four months later, I would meet Kalista. She
shared her testimony at a Bible study I went to, (pretty much just to
hang out with my friends). I was convinced that this girl wasn’t going
to change me, but later I found myself thinking about what she had
said, and our testimonies were actually almost word for word. I began
to talk to her, but I still wasn’t over my stubbornness.
It wasn’t until I actually started paying attention at my church and
going to youth group, when I started to hear and understand The Word of
God. Kalista and I grew very very close, practically like sisters. She
gave a helping hand in teaching me about the awesomeness that our
Creator holds.
Now in my life, I have so much to look forward to. God has done
incredible things, and I am so thankful! I have taken many “Next Steps”
in my walk with Christ; I now attend my church regularly, Sunday
School, youth group, and Saturday Night Prayer, which has inspired me
so much!
I am so glad that I started going to Prayer, I could not think of any
other way I’d rather spend my Saturday nights! Prayer has actually
inspired me to take F2F to my school, and begin revival there. I have
talked to the Youth for Christ leaders who are going to help me with
bringing it to Tri-Village, and we can’t wait! I’m so excited for this
coming school year to start up. I’ve got God on my side, and awesome
support from my friends. Revival at Tri-Village is just around the
corner!
