Teen
Revival…
Reviving
large cities one at a time
By Kalista King & Becca Riffle
Lately
I have had the privilege of getting to
know a girl by the name of Becca Riffle who goes to our youth group,
The Corner
Shack, on Wednesday nights. You've heard me talk in past articles about
teenagers who are on fire for Christ and ready to make a difference,
and Becca
is one of these teenagers.
We have
been talking about what it means
to be a light in our school, and how challenging that can be. However,
we have
the blessing of many other fellow believers who are on fire and ready
to make a
difference as well. Our passion for Christ has been spreading more and
more
throughout this summer, and I know that it will carry on into this
school year
as revival begins to spread to other schools in Darke County.
Becca will
be a sophomore at Ansonia
High School this year, and I am excited to see her spread revival
throughout
her school as she brings her passion for Christ into school with her
this year.
I asked Becca to share about what God has been doing in her life so you
can
hear from another teenager who is on fire for Christ. Instead of just
telling
you about them, I like for you to hear directly from them yourselves!
When
I talk about these teenagers, I'm not just
making up the things I say about their passion for sharing the gospel
with
others. We teenagers are truly ready to bring revival throughout the
world one
step at a time.
Becca:
As Kalista said this year I'm going to be a sophomore, and
I'm ready to
spread revival through my school! My freshman year was very hard for
me. I went
my first day of high school ready to share the love of God with
everyone in
sight, but I was overcome with the fear of rejection. I was afraid of
being
completely blown off but even worse being the "loser" of my high
school.
I
believe the reason I was so easily scared was
because of my low self-confidence and desire to be
accepted. I
finished my freshman year with the feeling of having
accomplished nothing,
but with a desire to dedicate my entire summer to seeking God's heart,
I was
determined to find out who I truly am in Him.
At
the end of June, I attended a conference
in New York City called Jesus Culture. Their vision is to revive large
cities
one at a time, and seeing thousands of Christians from all
over the
country pack into one stadium with one desire, to see
God work, was
the most amazing thing!
That
whole weekend God just fed my fire and
really spoke into me about who I am to Him. I am His daughter and He
has a plan
so special and so specific that I am the only one who can complete it.
A guy by
the name of Carl Lentz, a pastor in Manhattan, spoke about a man in his
church
that had been free of heroin for a year and the man had been struggling
not to
go back. Carl told the man that anytime he was tempted, to call him.
One
morning Carl woke up with 20 missed calls. Later that day, he
found out
that a batch of heroin had been dealt and the man died.
Carl's
story really spoke to me. There are
people all around that are trying to call us one way or another and we
need to
answer the call. People are desperately searching for something more
and maybe
I am the only one to share Christ with them. I have a passion to see
kids my
age transformed into what God desires for them to be. This year I'm
ready to
walk through the doors of my high school with confidence resting
assured that
God will guide me and be by my side the whole time. I'm so excited to
see lives
changed in my school for the glory of God and can't wait to see the
things
Christ will do through me!
