A
Word of Caution
Disagreeing with the
Road
By Tiffany Beumer
A
year ago everyone was out in shorts and no jackets, this year
it’s snow boots and layers of clothes. I understand we live in Ohio and
they
say the weather changes in a split second, but this weather is
unbelievable.
One
day the sun is shining a beam of warmth, the next we are out
building snowmen. Not only does the weather affect what we wear but
also our
driving can become hazardous. I’ve heard someone once say that when you
live in
Ohio you aren’t afraid of a little bit of snow. Just like the weather,
one’s
mind can be changed in a split second.
I
was driving to work Thursday; mind you I drive a Honda Accord.
The roads had a light dusting of snow, but it was nothing to talk
about. As I
was slowly turning right onto Birt Street off of Sweitzer, I noticed my
car was
disagreeing with the roads. A few feet ahead of me sat an elderly woman
at a
stop sign just watching as I was heading straight for her. Not a second
too
late my car finally came to a halt, I then took a sigh of relief. The
wide eyed
lady looked as relieved as I. I waved a motion of apology as she nodded
in
understanding. As I turned into work I was still a bit shocked but I
couldn’t
help but imagine what would have happened if my car would not have
stopped.
It
may be a little late in the year for a reminder, but I hope
everyone is cautious as they are out driving in any form of weather. As
we are
all unaware of what tomorrow may bring, I hope you all stay warm… or
cool!
