Prayer:
a Powerful,
Unstoppable Thing
By Kalista King
Hello
again! Unfortunately, I have been unable to write for quite some time,
so it brings me great joy to finally have the opportunity to update you
on the wonders going on in the youth of Darke County! There is much to
share. I speak on behalf of those who wish to see a supernatural
revival break loose in this place. Hopefully you all enjoy this as much
as I do.
Mark 11:24- “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Prayer: a powerful, unstoppable thing. If we all understood the power
of prayer, this would be a completely different nation. There is
nothing that prayer cannot accomplish. There is nothing that can
undermine its power. And what is even greater than that is we
know a God who answers prayer; a God whose heart is moved by the cries
of his people.
As most of you know, I have seen God bring many different ministries to
life in Darke County through the prayers of his people. The things
which I write about are usually my own personal experiences; things
that I must share because I have seen and experienced them for myself.
Our Friend2Friend ministry at Greenville High School and Saturday Night
Prayer are two direct results of God’s faithfulness to the prayers of
many. God answers prayer.
We are beginning to realize this more and more as those in our local
prayer groups are striving to be more intentional about becoming a
people of prayer. It has become evident that the more we pray, the more
we sense a need to pray, and the more we sense a need to pray, the more
we want to pray. When I say we, I am referring to a group of youth who
desire to see God sweep through our community and call people back to
him. With the help of my father, Michael King, and his close friend,
Lougena Mancillas, we are building an army of youth who long to be a
part of this supernatural move of God here in Darke County. Now I would
be happy to inform you more on what God is doing here so you can join
us in this movement!
A year ago, I never would have guessed our Saturday Night Prayer
ministry (SNP) would be where it is today. When we started SNP, I had
high hopes for the ministry because I had experienced a Saturday Night
Prayer group with Teens for Christ in Lima, Ohio. I loved going to Lima
and joining the many teens there who gathered to pray on Saturday
nights, and I longed to have that here in Greenville. We finally got
one started sometime in the 2011-2012 school year (if I’m not
mistaken). However, I struggled with leading this ministry, because I
had never led a prayer group before. My hope was that God could use
this ministry to show people the power of prayer, but I wasn’t quite
sure how it was supposed to look yet.
It began taking off when Lougena started coming to our prayer
meetings and decided to open her home to the teens throughout the week.
This helped bridge the gap between coming together for prayer on
Saturday nights and going back into the world as strangers until the
next prayer group. The more we started hanging out at her house, the
closer we got to each other. Soon we became a family, and Lougena
became like a mother to us… always making meals, spending time with us,
and mentoring us when needed.
A few months after Lougena started attending SNP, my dad became a part
of it too, and we finally had a male leader to help with the ministry.
I remember a time when Lougena, my dad, and I showed up for prayer one
Saturday night, accompanied by two others from the prayer group. That
night, the five of us got on our faces and cried out to God for over
three hours, begging him to bring about a revival in the hearts of his
people.
As time went on, our prayer ministry began to grow. The deeper we
got into prayer, the more we realized God was moving and answering our
prayers. We started talking about ways to go deeper in our prayer time
and making adjustments so our time would be more effective on Saturday
nights. Eventually we had new people coming almost every week who were
so hungry for God. Some of these people didn’t know The Lord at all,
some simply wanted to join a prayer group, and some just wanted to be
plugged into a family who authentically cared for each other and loved
The Lord. Before we knew it, God totally took over this ministry and
began forming an army of Christ.
Recently, other ministries have begun branching off of SNP. We now have
prayer group at Lougena’s on Tuesday nights too, and she even began a
Friday meal ministry to make meals for those who can come over to her
house to eat on their lunch breaks. We also had a prayer revival at
Solid Rock Church last weekend where we had a great time of prayer,
worship, fellowship, and testimonies. God continues to amaze us by how
he is moving and answering our prayers, but that’s not all.
The ministry that I am most excited for is our upcoming Outreach Team.
In a former article, I wrote about our hopes in starting this last
year, but it hadn’t happened yet. Fortunately, Lougena, my dad, and I
are now able to enter the beginning stages of forming this Outreach
Team! Our vision in this is to form a team of believers who are
dedicated to sharing the awesomeness of God through their spiritual
gifts and natural talents and abilities. We hope to travel to local
churches and youth events to share what God is doing here through
songs, skits, testimonies, and whatever else God adds to the mix. Our
goal is to get the team up and going by March so we can be ready to
travel in the spring to wherever God calls us.
I truly believe this is still just the beginning of God’s marvelous
plan for Darke County and beyond. We will not limit the power of God
and we will continue praying for an even greater supernatural revival
to come awaken the hearts of God’s people. If anyone wishes to join us
for SNP or any of the other ministries, please contact me. My email is
kalista_joy@yahoo.com … We would love to hear from you! Thanks and I
look forward to updating you again soon! God bless!
