take the time to stop and note it."
Her blog is an account of her study abroad in the summer of 2014. The
following is an excerpt of the experiences of a young American college
student in London, England…
On the way back from the park, public transportation failed me for the
first time on my whole trip. London is split up into nine zones, and my
Oyster card only allowed me to travel within zones one and two. I
hadn’t realized that the park was in zone three, so I could get out to
the park but I couldn’t get back on the Tube without paying. I thought
maybe I could take the bus and get back into zone two without paying,
but the bus just took me farther out into zone three. Once the bus
finally got to a tube station, I paid the price to get back into zone
two. I still wanted to see Abbey Road before I went home for the day,
but when I finally got on the Tube, the train sat at the station for 15
minutes before the conductor told us that the train wasn’t working and
we had to get off. By this time I was exhausted and just wanted to go
home, so I walked to the nearest station and went home. I never got to
go to Abbey Road, so it’s now on my list for the next time I go to
London!
It was a journey full of new experiences and learning opportunities.
