On August 29, 2025 at approximately 8:25p.m. Darke County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Gettysburg Fire and Rescue, Greenville Township Rescue, and Care flight responded to the intersection of Childrens Home-Bradford road and Horatio- New Harrison road in reference to a two vehicle accident with injury.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a Black 2021 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Brendan Whitford (38), of Franklin, Ohio was traveling East on Childrens Home-Bradford. A Dark Green 2020 Toyota Tacoma, driven by John Wyan (56), of Bradford, was traveling South on Horatio- New Harrison. Mr. Whitford failed to yield the right of way to Mr. Wyan at the posted stop sign. Mr. Whitford was struck by Mr. Wyan.
Mr. Whitford was transported to Wayne Hospital by EMS. His passengers Holly Witford (36), of Franklin, Ohio and 3 juveniles were uninjured. Mr. Wyan was transported to Upper Valley Medical Center by Care flight, and his passenger Cheryl Newbold (55), of Arcanum was transported to Wayne Hospital by EMS. All injuries are non-life threatening.
This accident remains under investigation.
