Prepare Your Home for Disasters
Columbus, Ohio – September is officially designated as Ohio Preparedness Month by the state of Ohio and coordinated by the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA). Ohio Preparedness Month (OPM) is a campaign aimed at enhancing public awareness and providing education regarding essential strategies for effectively preparing for emergencies, disasters, or unforeseen circumstances that may arise.
“The primary objective of this initiative is to inspire Ohioans to engage in proactive measures that enhance their readiness for a wide array of potential disasters,” said EMA Executive Director Sima Merick. “Preparing your home for disaster is an important part of your readiness.”
Consider the hazards and risks that may impact your location and the consequences they may bring. What can Ohioans do to prepare their home?
The 2025 OPM theme is “Prepare Your Home for Disaster,” which provides valuable insights on best practices and strategies to ready your residence before disaster strikes. Each week of the month has a theme which discusses a different aspect of preparedness:

Week 2 (September 7-13):Plan Ahead
Week 3 (September 14-20): Mitigation
