Darke County Economic Development is proud to open applications for the 2026 cohort of Leadership Darke County, an innovative ten-month initiative designed to nurture and elevate leadership skills within our community. Building on the success of the first cohort, the 2026 program promises even greater opportunities for emerging leaders to expand their capacities, collaborate with peers, and drive positive change across Darke County.
“It isn’t just a program,” Mike Bowers, Director of Darke County Economic Development recently stated referring to Leadership Darke County. “It’s a driving force for impactful growth and collaboration. Our goal is to create a network of dedicated individuals eager to serve, innovate and leave a lasting legacy in our communities.”
Leadership Darke County aims to empower individuals who are actively pursuing leadership roles by providing a structured, hands-on learning experience. Throughout the program, participants will engage in a variety of leadership topics, including self-assessment, career management, mentorship, and communication, among others. These sessions will be complemented by site visits to local organizations like Wayne HealthCare, Midmark and Darke Rural Electric, offering invaluable insights into leadership practices across different sectors.
The upcoming cohort will also take on a class project. The Darke County Career Compass, a comprehensive platform designed to connect local businesses with motivated job seekers eager to build their careers in Darke County, was a visionary initiative developed by the 2025 cohort.
“Participating in the leadership program enhanced my strategic thinking, improved how I lead and provided practical tools I apply daily to achieve stronger results at work,” Arielle Heitkamp, a Controller, from Wayne HealthCare relayed.
Interested individuals are invited to submit an application and undergo an interview process. This exclusive program is limited to 20 participants to ensure an intimate and impactful experience. All applications must be submitted by October 26, 2025.
