The Cancer Association of Darke County is currently in need of volunteer drivers. If you have a few hours to spare, a reliable vehicle, and a willingness to make a difference, we would love to have you join us. Mileage reimbursement is provided, and the gratitude you’ll receive from patients is immeasurable.
A testimonial from an anonymous driver:
When I first volunteered to be a driver for the Cancer Association of Darke County, I thought I’d simply be giving people a lift to their doctor’s appointments. What I didn’t realize was how meaningful those drives would become—not just for the patients, but for me as well.
Each time I pick someone up, I’m reminded that the journey through cancer is not one anyone should have to take alone. For many patients, transportation is one of their greatest challenges. Some no longer drive, others don’t have family nearby, and still others are simply too tired to make the trip themselves. Being able to step in, offer a smile, and make sure they arrive safely gives me a sense of purpose I didn’t expect.
The conversations during the ride are often what stays with me most. Sometimes we talk about family, hobbies, or old memories. Other times, silence is enough—just knowing someone is there beside them can make a difficult day a little easier.
Volunteering as a driver isn’t about clocking hours or logging miles. It’s about being a steady presence during one of the toughest battles someone can face. And I can say, without a doubt, that I’ve gained far more than I’ve given.
