Animal Problem
On September 30, 2025, at approximately 1816 hours I responded to the area of Hiddeson Avenue and Thirteenth Street in the City of Greenville in reference to a loose dog that was described as a Great Dane that was black and grey in color that looked to be severely malnourished. The complainant advised the Great Dane was very skinny and could see the animals’ bones. Prior to my arrival I was advised by the complaint the Great Dane kept running away from her. I patrolled the area where I observed the dog in the alley between the 400 block of Gray Avenue and Washington Avenue. I attempted to catch the dog where the dog ran away from me. I observed the dog to be what was described above, the dog did not look healthy as you could clearly see the bones of the dog. I also observed a collar on the dog. The dog then ran away from me. As I was patrolling the area I remembered an animal cruelty case back in July that our police department took. That individual was Maria Yoder who was cited for animal cruelty on two counts. I looked up that report, 25-G00968 and observed the photos in that case. I found it to be same the Great Dane and had appeared to have the same collar. The Great Dane did not appear to be in any better shape from the photos in the abovementioned report. While still on patrol we received another call about the Great Dane, and they advised that he had a hold of it. Sgt. Marion and I were able to gather the dog where he was placed in the back of my cruiser. There were questions regarding whether the dog should be back with Maria as the case mentioned above is ongoing and set for trial 10/08/25. Sgt. Marion spoke to Dog Warden; Robert Bear who advised he was told by the prosecutor to release the dog back to her, which he did so. Due to the dog’s condition, Sherry with the Humane Society responded and took the dog to be evaluated for medical care. Dispatch was able to contact the owner of the dog who was in fact Maria Yoder, where Maria confirmed the dog’S name was Roxy, which was also on her collar. Maria was advised the Humane Society will have Roxy and will be checked out by a veterinarian. I advised Officer Russell of the situation, where he advised he would contact prosecutor Steve Anderson about whether or not Maria is allowed to have the dog while the court case is ongoing and if she is to be charged again. Photos were taken and will be attached to this report. This report is for information only, no new charges at this time.
Fight
On October 5, 2025, at approximately 2228 hours, Sgt Prickett, Officer Ward, and I were dispatched to the 300-block of Anderson Avenue in reference to a fight in progress. Prior to my arrival I was advised there were two subjects in the street physically fighting. Upon my arrival I located the listed vehicle, a 2015 Ford F-250 bearing Ohio registration KOY4509, sitting parked on the side of the road. A witness in the area, known to me as Ashley Tomblin, stated one of the subjects fighting was in the vehicle. When I approached the vehicle I located the suspect, Austin Wyatt in the driver seat and Aviendah Thomas in the front passenger seat. Austin had a bloody nose, bloody mouth, appeared to be out of breath, had bruising to his head, and admitted to being in a fight a few moments prior to my arrival. Austin stated he had a firearm in the vehicle with him. A loaded 9mm Sig Sauer was seen by Austin’s feet. As it was yet to be determined if the firearm was used in the commission of the fight, I took possession for safe keeping, as Austin needed to go to the hospital. Greenville Township Rescue was contacted and transported Austin to the hospital. After Austin was transported, I spoke to Aviendah further. Aviendah stated Austin had been in an argument with a subject, but she wouldn’t say who the subject was. Aviendah and Austin live approximately 2 1/2 hours from Greenville, so I asked why they were here. Aviendah stated it was for the Renaissance Festival, which is still approximately a 1 1/2 hour from Greenville. Aviendah wasn’t very forthcoming with information and would only say Austin drove up here to fight some guy. While I was speaking with Aviendah, Officer Ward and Sgt Prickett made contact with the other half of the fight, now known to me as Brandon Boone, who lives at 327 Anderson Avenue. I went over to Brandon and asked him how the fight began. Brandon said that Austin was starting problems with him on Facebook, so he told him to come to his house, and they would fight. Brandon didn’t say what the fight originated over. Brandon had scrapes to his legs and bruising to his face. Photos were taken of Brandon’s injuries (see photo log). Brandon didn’t want to fill out a statement or be a victim. Brandon later admitted to drinking alcohol and taking a pre-workout drink causing him chest issues. Greenville Township Rescue was called again with Brandon refusing to go to the hospital. I spoke to witnesses in the area, which included Ashley Tomblin, Malissa Ginger, and Greg Stutz. They all advised they witnessed the incident after the fight had already started. All parties stated they witnessed Brandon striking Austin while Austin was on the ground. However, Ashley stated Aviendah had been recording the incident with her cell phone. No one wanted to fill out statements. I went back to speak with Aviendah. On my way back I was told that Aviendah and Brandon used to know each other prior to this incident. I confronted Aviendah with this new information and she admitted to knowing Brandon a few years prior but hadn’t seen him in a year. Aviendah showed me the video from her cell phone. In the video you can see both subjects rolling around on the ground with Austin having Brandon in a rear naked chokehold before Brandon escapes. There was no other video prior to that or after that. Austin’s vehicle was legally parked, but due to the nature of the call, photos were taken of the vehicle as it was sitting outside 327 Anderson Avenue, where Brandon was still located. I went to Wayne Hospital to speak with Austin further about the incident. Austin stated the fight was over Brandon causing problems with him over social media. Photos were taken of Austin’s injuries. Austin stated he did not want to be a victim or write a statement. Due to Austin being in the hospital, his firearm was taken for safekeeping and placed into property. Austin was advised he needed to speak with Det. Dickmann at a later date to retrieve the firearm. Since no one wanted to be a victim or write statements, this incident was deemed to be mutual combat. No charges were filed.
Drugs
On October 7th, 2025, at approximately 1508 hours I was advised to be on the lookout for a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee that might be driving while impaired and transporting a juvenile who was not secured safely in the vehicle. The vehicle in question, a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee (KOS5019) registered to Kathryn Lovejoy, was located in the alley behind 416 E. Third St. Lt. Boyer spoke with the driver, Kathryn Lovejoy, regarding the incident. Lovejoy advised that she was picking her granddaughter up from childcare and was not impaired. She also advised that she did have the child secured in an appropriate car seat. A car seat was observed in the vehicle and appeared to not be secured properly in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. The childcare facility, CORS Head Start, advised that they thought that Lovejoy was asleep in the vehicle with food hanging out of her mouth while waiting to pickup the juvenile. Lovejoy denied that she was asleep and that again she was not impaired. Given Lovejoy’s prior drug involvements, Lt. Boyer asked if there were any drugs in the vehicle to which Lovejoy advised that there was a capped needle in the vehicle. Based on this information, PO Hall and Police K9 Atz were requested to do a free air sniff around the vehicle. Lovejoy consented to and was administered a Standardized Field Sobriety Test by PO Wolfe.PO Wolfe conducted a SFST on Lovejoy and determined that there were no notable signs of impairment.PO Hall and K9 Atz conducted a free air sniff test to which K9 Atz positively alerted to the scent of illegal narcotics in the vehicle. Based on the positive alert the vehicle was searched, and a hypodermic needle was located in a small coin purse on the driver seat of the vehicle. Additionally, a cut straw with an unknown powdery substance and a small plastic container with an unknown pink substance was located in the coin purse. Lovejoy was asked about substances in the small container to which she advised it was a mixture of fentanyl and xylazine. The above listed items were confiscated as evidence and placed into property and the unknown pink substance will be sent to the BCI crime lab for testing. On October 8th, 2025, at approximately 1530 hours Kelly Rinderly of Darke County Child Protective Services was contacted and informed of the situation.Nothing further at this time, pending the results from the BCI Crime Lab.
