October 18, 1966 – February 17, 2026
Douglas A. Maurer age 59, of Charleston, South Carolina and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at his residence.
Douglas was born on October 18, 1966, in Greenville, Ohio, to Angeline (Ray) Maurer and the late Arthur Maurer.
In addition to his mother, Douglas is survived by his son, Casey Maurer of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Adelaine & Charmy Grace (due in May); sister, Deb Maurer of Greenville; brother & sister-in-law, Jason & Tia Maurer of Liberty Township; his nieces and nephews Anthony Olson, Aaron (Amanda) Olson and Sheyanne Olson and 2 great nephews and numerous cousins.
Doug was a proud 1985 graduate of Greenville High School. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving his country honorably and faithfully for 8 years serving most of that time in the Philippines. His time in the service reflected the dedication and strong work ethic that would define the rest of his life.
After leaving the service Doug continued working for his country as a federal government contractor as a systems administrator in the field of computer systems and design. In his position as a systems administrator Doug continued serving both overseas and different parts of the United States. He was highly regarded by his team members.
Doug enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and taking road trips to the different Bikefests or just to go out to dinner. Each summer he would take a cross-country road trip that he planned out all winter. He also enjoyed researching genealogy and tracing his family’s heritage. So, he often combined the two and met up with relatives he found or visited the different cemeteries.
Above all, family meant the most to Doug. His road trips always included a trip home to Greenville to spend time with his family and go to the fair.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Todd Reish officiating. Burial will follow in Gettysburg Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Top Priority Veterans, Inc. 641 Treaty Way, Greenville, Ohio 45331.
