The Arcanum Public Library is expecting a happy holiday season during the month of December. The weather not only serves as a great time to cozy up with a new book or DVD, but there will be many exciting events open to the community during the month as well.
The highlighted event of the month is the Christmas Open House on Tuesday, December 2nd from 5:30-7:30PM. During this time Santa will be available for visits upstairs near the big tree, Christmas Crafts for kids to create keepsakes of the holiday season will be at the tables upstairs and games available to enjoy the festive time set up throughout. This will be a wonderful time to welcoming in the holiday spirit and check out our available festive resources of books, magazines, and DVD’s!
In keeping it a December of community and connection, there will be one last Community Euchre Night of the 2025 year on Monday, December 1st from 6:00-7:30PM. This is open to anyone to stop by for or you may sign up at the front desk to help us prepare. There is often joy and laughter as cards are passed and we get to know others in our area. The next date in the new year for Community Euchre Night will be January 5th from 6:00-7:30PM.
Holiday cheer on Thursdays will be present throughout the last Storytimes and last After School Programs of the year. Storytime will be December 4th and 11th at 10:00AM and full of some of our favorite holiday books and crafts. Christmas Jammies are welcome during the Storytime on December 11th as we will read The Polar Express and ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. The last After School Programs of this year are December 4th, 11th, and 18th, 2:45-3:45PM for Middle School and up and 3:45-4:45PM for Elementary ages. There are snacks, crafts, and sometimes Legos make the After School Program fun.
If you’re wanting to make your Christmas season creative, sign up at the front desk for one of our Holiday crafts. On Thursday, December 11th from 6:00-7:30PM there will be a Gingerbread House Craft for ages 13 and up. A pre-painted cobblestone house or cottage will be provided, as well as the paint markers and hot glue. Plan to bring any extra embellishments or decorations if you would like to create your gingerbread house to your unique personal décor. An Adult Christmas Book Craft will be on Tuesday, December 16th at 1:00PM. During the craft we will learn some new techniques in using tea and coffee stained book pages in our holiday craft. Both crafts have limited availability, so please sign up at the front desk in person or by phone.
Families are invited on Tuesday, December 16th at 6:00PM for a Family Game Night. There will be trivia and board games out.
Be sure to check out all your holiday resource needs to wrap up the year, and remember the Arcanum Public Library will be closed on December 24th and 25th for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as well as December 31st and January 1st for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
