Deadline for the submission of nominations for the 2023 Distinguished Law Enforcement Awards is on June 2

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s 2023 Law Enforcement Conference (LEC) – Ohio’s preeminent gathering of state, county and municipal law enforcement – will take place on Oct. 24-25 at the Hyatt Regency Columbus.

The deadline has been extended for agencies to submit nominations for the 2023 Ohio Distinguished Law Enforcement Awards, seven honors given out annually during the Law Enforcement Conference:

  • Lifetime Achievement: Recognizes persons who have made extraordinary contributions to the development of Ohio law enforcement. Nominees must have a retirement date of April, 30, 2023, or before.
  • Mark Losey Service: Nominees are considered for contributions to and performance in the pursuit of justice during his or her career. Contributions must have been significant in the development of Ohio law enforcement.
  • Group Achievement: Nominated group’s accomplishment of a specific mission must have distinguished itself above and beyond all others. An impact must have been made within law enforcement and/or society, resulting in positive recognition for the department. The award will be considered for actions performed between May 1, 2022, and April 30, 2023.
  • Victoria Allen Civilian Leadership: Awarded to a civilian, non-law enforcement individual who works closely with law enforcement. The nominee is recognized for making extraordinary contributions to the community.  
  • Training: Awarded to recognize the law enforcement trainer’s length of service and training activities. Nominees will be considered for their importance of their training activities to others in the law enforcement and local communities, for regional and/or national recognition of contributions, and for any published works or bibliographic recognition.
  • Valor: Awarded to an officer who has distinguished himself or herself beyond the call of duty in the performance or act of gallantry. The award will be considered for actions performed between May 1, 2022, and April 30, 2023.
  • Community Service: Awarded to a nominee active in civic/community organizations. The recipient is recognized for making extraordinary contributions in the community.
