Trespassing

June 25

On June 25, 2023 at approximately 3:30 PM police was dispatched to 695 Wagner Avenue (Rural King) in reference to a trespassing complaint. Police came into contact with the witness, Kirk Young. Kirk advised police that Allen Shaffer was currently in the building and he believed that he had been previously trespassed due to Shaffer attempting to steal items from the local business. Police located Shaffer in the business wearing a bluet-shirt that he had not yet paid for. When asked Shaffer advised that he did not believe or understand why he was trespassed previously. Police was able to confirm with dispatch that Shaffer had been previously trespassed on 02-19-2023 by other police. Shaffer was escorted to the front of the store where he was given permission to purchase the t-shirt he was wearing and another blue t-shirt. After speaking with Kirk further he advised that he did want to have charges pressed on Shaffer due to the previous trespass warning and was given and completed a witness statement form as well as a Victim’s Rights form. Shaffer was subsequently issued a citation for criminal trespass and advised of his court date. Shaffer was given all necessary copies of his paper work and advised again to not return to the local business.

Wanted Person/Fugitive from Justice

June 25

On June 25, 2023 at approximately 9:28 PM police observed the listed 2000 Chevy Truck being operated eastbound on Martin Street. Police observed the listed vehicle make a southbound turn from Martin Street onto Tillman Avenue without signaling its turn. Police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, later identified as Jermel Smith. When asked for his identification Jermel provided police with the name and date of birth of Termel S. Smith DOB 11-02-1993. Dispatch was unable to locate any of this information through Ohio or Indiana so when asked again Jeremel stated his drivers license was from Mississippi. Dispatch was unable to locate this information through Mississippi either. Police then reapproached Jermel who stated his birth year was 1989 instead of 1993. Jermel stated he was nervous and forgot his birthyear. Dispatch was able to run this information which returned to Tremel S. Smith out of Starksville, Mississippi. Police was able to view a photo of Termel Smith which looked similar to Jermel. Termel’s Mississippi drivers license was under a suspension through NCIC/LEADS. Due to Jermel matching the information given as Termel S. Smith, police began to complete a traffic citation for a Termel Smith reference driving under suspension and not having the truck registered. While police was doing so, other police was able to make contact with the Union City Police Chief, who Jermel was on the phone with several times throughout the traffic stop. Jermel stated he worked with the Union City Police Chief taking care of his horses. the Union City Police Chief told P.0. Spradley Jermel’s name was not Termel, but was in fact Jermel Smith. Police reapproached Jermeland confronted him with this information. Jermel then advised he lied about his information and stated his name was Germel T. Smith which dispatch ran and was unable to find. Jermel finally, after 1 hour, gave police his real name, Jermel T. Smith. Dispatch was able to run this information through LEADS/NCIC and advised Jermel had an active felony warrant through Deleware County Indiana reference domestic battery with no bond. Jermel was placed into handcuffs and was searched incident to arrest with nothing located. Police transported Jermel to the Darke County Jail to be held on his outstanding warrant. Jermel was transferred into the custody of Darke County Jail staff with no incident. Jermel was issued traffic citations reference display of stickers and a furnishing false information to a police officer and issued Jermel his copies. Police also advised Jermel of his court dates. Police stayed with Jermel’s vehicle until Hotrods towing arrived to tow the vehicle.

Theft

June 26

On June 26th, 2023, at approximately 9:47 AM police was dispatched to Lowes, 1550 Wagner Avenue, reference a theft. Police made contact with Loss Prevention, Leah Schroeder. Leah stated that she handles loss prevention for 6 Lowes stores and that she had came to the Greenville store after being made aware of a theft of three lawn mowers that had occurred on 06/02/2023. Leah provided police with her report and advised that on June 2nd, 2023, at approximately 2:01 AM, an older white pickup truck, either a Chevy or GMC, entered the parking lot from Wagner Avenue and drove to the rear of the store where over flow merchandise is kept. Leah stated that in the video, which police later viewed, two subjects get out of the truck and begin loading two Craftsman’s Riding Lawn Mowers worth $3,878 and a zero turn Husqvarna lawn mower worth $3,649 into the back of the truck and leave the parking lot at approximately 3:36 AM. Leah stated that the store was closed at the time and as the vehicle and suspects were leaving, an employee arriving for his shift pulled into the parking lot and observed the suspect vehicle driving through the parking lot and leave on Wagner Avenue in an unknown direction. In the video police was unable to observe any identifying characteristics of the subjects. Leah stated that the Huber Heights Lowes had also been hit and that reports had been made with the Huber Heights Police Department. Leah stated that the truck used in this theft had been used once in Huber Heights. Leah advised she had been made aware that the officers were able to get a license plate number by going through cameras in the area. Leah advised that Lowes does not keep track of serial numbers and could only provide police with the make and model number. Leah advised that a second truck had been used for a theft at the Huber Heights Store and that it was the same truck that had been stopped by police on 06/07/2023. Leah was advised of that report number and the identities of the subjects that were stopped. On 06/27/2023, police made contact with the Huber Heights Police Department. They advised that the license plate that his officers found (IN TSE530) was not the correct license plate number and that the plate was unreadable and could only tell that it was an IN license plate. Huber Height police advised that at this time he did not have any leads and in the video he could not observe any identifying characteristics of the subjects. Huber Heights police advised that they actually had two thefts the same night and that a blue dully truck had been observed on camera. Police advised Huber Heights police that other GPD police had stopped the vehicle on 06/07/2023 and provided him the information for that vehicle and the subjects stopped. The report was emailed by GPD Records to Huber Heights police. Police searched through camera photos for a truck matching the description of the truck used in this theft and could not find any matching. Police also searched for truck on 5/17/2023 which was the night of the Huber Heights thefts and could not find the vehicles.

Junk Vehicle

June 26

On 6-26-23 police observed the listed junk motor vehicle on the property of 436 E. 4th St. A Junk Vehicle notice was posted at the residence. Police attempted to make contact with the property owner, Trina Rogers. Address listed is in Kentucky and no one answered the two phone numbers listed. Trina’s mother owned the residence previously and the listed 1999 Dodge vehicle plates expired in 2019. Trina’s mother, Dana Teaford, is deceased. Auditors website confirmed Trina as the property owner. A Junk Vehicle notice was left on the front door to the residence for the listed Dodge that appeared to be inoperable and sitting for a long time. A grass mowing notice was already placed at the front door. SSD Delk and zoning were notified by email. Police will check the property after 15 days.

Nuisances/Noise Complaint

June 27

On 06/27/23 at 11:21 pm, GPD was dispatched to 307 Oxford Dr. #106 on a noise complaint. Police could hear Brooke Setser screaming and yelling inside her apartment. Police met the complainant, Hannah Pemberton, outside. She stated she was Setser’s daytime caregiver and stated Setser had been acting out all day. At the time of this call, Setser had 2 caregivers present, one being a supervisor. Police entered Setser’ s apartment and spoke with her and her caregivers. They stated she had been screaming because she was not getting her way. Setser was making allegations of assault by her caregivers as she has done in the past when police has been on calls with her. She had no visible injuries and the caregiver had recorded Setser acting out with his cell phone. Part of the video showed Setser with her hands around her throat choking herself. Setser had also kicked over the trash can in anger and broke a mirror in her bedroom. Contact was made with her dad, David Setser. He stated she is due for a hormone shot and, in the period of time just before it’s due, she acts up like this. Setser was advised that if she continued to scream and act out disturbing her neighbors she could be criminally charged for disorderly conduct. Setser agreed to go in and go to bed prior to police’s departure.

Domestic Violence

June 28

On June 28th, 2023 at approximately 1:00 PM police was dispatched to 741 Martin Street in reference to a Domestic Violence. Police made contact with the Victim, Gregory Stutz and police asked him what had happened. The Victim stated that the mother of his children, the Defendant, Ashley Boone, had been drinking and had been threatening to “Set him up” with drugs and report it to her Probation Officer. The Victim and Defendant also reside together at the listed residence with their two children ages 5 and 4 who were present. The Victim stated that he took his children outside. The Victim stated that he bent down to place a mask on his daughter due to poor air quality when the Defendant came up behind him and bit him in the nose and stated that he could not take her children. The Victim stated that his nose began to bleed immediately after the Defendant bit him. The Victim stated that after Ashley bit him, he called the Police. The Victim showed police his nose and police could see that his nose was bleeding. Police took photographs of the Victim’s injured nose. The Victim completed a written statement and the victim rights form. After speaking to the Victim, police went inside and spoke with the Defendant, who was hiding in an upstairs closet. Police advised the Defendant that she was under arrest for Domestic Violence. The Defendant admitted to being in an argument with the Victim but that she did not bite the Victim and that he was lying. The Defendant did not have any visible injuries and was also photographed by police. Police advised the Defendant that the Victim clearly had an injury on his nose. Police placed handcuffs on the Defendant placing her under arrest. The Defendant was transported to the Darke County Jail and was released to the Jail staff. A CCH was ran on the Defendant with no prior Domestic Violence convictions. The defendant was also issued a misdemeanor citation for Domestic Violence and given her copy.

Wanted Person/Fugitive from Justice

June 28

On 06/28/23 at approximately 6:28 PM, Jeremy Jones was located and arrested on 2 outstanding arrest warrants. Police had prior knowledge from this day’s briefing that Jeremy 0. Jones had an active arrest warrant from the Darke County Municipal Court, Greenville Police Department, for Failure to Appear on a driving under suspension case with a $175 bond. While on patrol, police located Jones on Sixth St. talking to his father. Police confirmed Jones’ identity and advised him of the warrant. Jones obtained his citation which showed his court date was yesterday 06/27/23. Jones’ warrant was confirmed through the police department. When Jones was run through LEADS/NCIC it also showed an active arrest warrant through the Logan Co. Ohio Sheriff’s Office for a family offense; no bond; must serve 45 days. That warrant was also confirmed. Jones was arrested and searched and no contraband was located. Jones was transported to the Darke Co. Jail without incident.

June 28

On June 28th, 2023 at approximately 7:40 PM police was dispatched to the 600 block of Martin street in reference to a disorderly complaint. Police made contact with a female subject, standing in the 500 block of Martin Street, who was involved in an argument with the complainant. Police was able to identify the female subject as Mara Maxwell. Police was then informed by dispatched that Mara had a warrant out of the Greenville police department for failure to appear on the original charge of driving under suspension. Mara was then informed of her warrant, placed into hand cuffs and was transported to the Darke County Sheriffs Office where she will be held with a bond of $225.

June 29

On June 29, 2023 at approximately 1:24 AM police went to 319 12th Street in reference to serve a Bench Warrant. Police knocked on the residence and made contact with resident/son of the defendant; Michael Jarrett. When asked Michael stated that his father; James Jarrett was in the residence. Michael gave permission to enter the residence while he went to get his father. Contact was made with the defendant/ offender; James Jarrett and he admitted that he knew that he had missed his court date for Driving Under Suspension. James was cooperative and was allowed to get dressed and gather money for his bond before exiting the residence. Dispatch checked LEADS/ NCIC and confirmed that James had an active warrant through the Greenville Police Department for failure to appear for driving under suspension with a $175 bond. James was placed into handcuffs and was searched incident to arrest with no contraband being located before being placed into the back of the cruiser. Police went to 122 West Main Street; Greenville Police Department where police received copies of the Bench Warrant. James was then transported to the Darke County Jail where custody was transferred to the jail staff and he is confined with a bond of $175.
